Agreed. I have two turkey loungers and they are much safer to fall asleep in on the ground than in a climbing stand in a tree. Then I saw my third cougar. And all of that changed. Saw a door-cam vid the other night on the news of a cougar walking through the owner's front yard in a neighborhood. In Des Moines Iowa! They are everywhere.

Only problem with ladder stands is other people will sit in them . Plus I kinda hunt some areas I’m not supposed to be in :notsure:
I have a Lone Wolf Sit and Climb just haven’t used it in years .Probably start again

I'm 53 and have been hunting from a climber exclusively for 30 years. So far the climbing still doesn't really bother me, but it seems like my stand gets heavier each year. I think it weighs 20, but I'd rather it weigh closer to around 2 pounds. I'm hoping I can squeeze in 8 or 10 more years before I switch to ground hunting.
(I'm sitting in my stand now;))

Bought a climber for this year but I’m in the unfortunate camp of absolutely hating heights so it’s a struggle every time I get up in it. Hoping a season or two and my nerves will settle and it’ll be second nature

and yes I wear a harness and trust the equipment but it doesn’t help.. yet

hang the climber, go up 2-4 feet, strap up, and lean all round, all angles, we thinks, once you feel comfortable, and stable with your equipment, you will be fine...

I can relate, I HATE heights. It took me a few sits to be comfortable in my climber. Now I’m perfectly comfortable in it. For me slightly thicker trees helped. Also standing up in the stand from time to time- not sure why but it did. Keep at it, it does get more natural. Now I shimmy up a tree with the best of them lol.

Had a shooter at 16 yards tonight and my release was about 14’ below me instead of my hand.

luckily I listened to this thread had had a backup in my bag but it is a wrist strap vs thumb so I got it on and was ready to shoot but decided to range him… should have just let it fly because he was so close. He Saw me and stared for a minute then blew and ran off. Opinions on if I should go back in tomorrow morning? I can’t hunt this area at all again this year after tomorrow morning. Wind is similar.

That gives me some hope that it’ll get easier!

yea I do all that every time just to make myself sure that it’s not gonna randomly implode and I’ll be left hanging from my safety rope to die a miserable death

Yea I don’t have an issue with being a ninja. Shot my last buck at about 11 yards from the ground with a 308 (that was sitting beside me when he walked up so took some sneaky movements to get it up)

    Yes I do

I'm the same way...if you're scared of heights that fear never goes away, you just have to manage it in your own way.
Mine is day by day; somedays 18-20 doesn't bother me at all; somedays I'm more comfortable at 12-14ft. I generally split the distance and hunt at 15-16ft.

I'd go back, maybe change trees if thats possible. If you dont go back you'll always wonder.
