How packed was it? Usually when we go we end up staying in Mammoth Lakes. We did stay in the yurts at Curry Village once but that was for the Half Dome hike. Always packed full.

Day one of the Northern Arizona Traverse. Solid moderate-level trail. Trailer very capable.

    https://expeditionportal.com/overland-routes-northern-arizona-traverse/

Recommend: The short stretch of dirt at the beginning can be bypassed. Don’t do it. There are challenges there that definitely gauge your readiness early, with an easy bail out, if you want it.

We broke camp next morning and traveled to Mingus Mtn, then Jerome. Nice visit there, and then went home. The trailer can wheel. I’m quite satisfied.

Not technically camping, but just got my ARE MX shell installed today after a 5 month wait. My camping roll-a-cot setup is going to work great. I can sit up full when sitting in the cot but I am going to cut about 2-3" inches off the legs anyway to make it a little more roomy. Sand beach chair fits right next to it for chilling out inside on colder nights or in rain. I had planned to have this for 2 different camping trips I took 2 and 3 weekends ago but ended up tenting it. Can't wait to try it out! Thinking a Joshua Tree weekend in a few weeks!

The disappointing thing is that it's incredibly hard to get a reservation for a campground in Upper/Lower Pines but it was only 2/3rd full when we were there.

Thanks! My 4 year old wanted to sleep with me in the RTT and my wife wanted the trailer which worked out nicely for our 1 year old.

Yeah I'm not even sure how we managed to get into Curry Village. It was pure luck we got a Half Dome permit as well.

What’s the length on the cot? When I checked on roll-a-cots they were too short or too long.

I’ve had mine for about 20+ years and when I measured it manually I was confident it would fit. The “metal frame” part came in at ~72” long. The mesh on the ends is crimped up and flexible and I suspect that is what they use for any official measurement but it isn’t t controllable because they heat shrink wrap the ends and screw them into the frame.

With that said, I don’t have official measurements from 20+ years ago but below is their website. They have several models in diff lengths and widths with length ranging from 67” to 74” to even longer.

I love this cot cause it is so comfortable, light and easy to setup and break down. Plus it only needs 4 legs to support due to the sliding metal frame so it can go over the wheel well and not have a middle support leg interfere.

I suspect mine is a 74” model but cannot guarantee. Worth a call to them to ask how the 74” is measured. They must know pickup truck owners are part of their market and would be foolish to not make it fit in a long bed Tacoma. But you’d also think they would advertise it at 72- 73” to remove all doubt.

I have been considering it but I am trying to not add much more weight after this mod. The cot is super comfy and light and I love that I can break it down in 2 minutes mid-trip if I need more room in the bed. If my wife wants to start tagging along on trips I light do a basic raised bed in the back but also make it easy to remove. Would not want it permanent.

My solo trips I am rather minimalistic so I don't need the storage space on a drawer system.

Thnk you though, I have looked at those threads and watched youtube videos of them.

BattleKat I have that 6 foot setup with a cot and chair in my current 97 and is the exact reason I wanted a 2021 long bed version (access cab). Looking at the ARE MX and SnugTop HiLiner as options for my new truck.

Nice. I used to have a 97 Ford Ranger but I only had a cab high topper (Vista brand, went out of business I believe). The head room was too low and it was very claustrophobic for me. I am super happy with the MX height. It is hard to get official height meansurements but I went with the MX because my hours upon hours of searching led me to believe the MX gives about 1" more clearance than other brands. Not sure if true nut it was a buyng factor for me.

I had doubts but I am also able to stand my 27.5" medium frame full suspension mountain bike up in the back with wheels on. It doesn't fit 100% length wise so I just need to angle it with the front wheel straight. If I turn the front wheel, the handlebar hits the ceiling. Currently trying to figure out the best way to mount it with easy in/out mounting. Leaning towards something homegrown first.

These cots are hard to find! Most of them have middle leg support that prevents them from being used flush against one side of the bed because of the wheel well. I bought this one (open box) from Amazon last year. Teton Sports Somnia. The same link says "Currently Unavailable".

    https://www.amazon.com/TETON-Lightweight-Camping-Folding-Included/dp/B01M61RXH6?ref_=ast_sto_dp

I love being able store things underneath the cot.

Very nice trailer set up! How often do you move every day like that vs staying a few days. I’ve been dreaming of a trailer to fit us and the kids better.
