@FloTaco was great to work with. Installed my TRD “Frankenstein” OEM lift all while explaining and teaching me along the way. Through some issues that were no fault of his (rented spring compressor broke) the install took up his entire day. This guy is such a stand up guy that he offered not to charge me at all due to how long it took.

That wasn’t acceptable to me as the issues weren’t his fault and everything he did was top notch. Anyway, we came to an acceptable agreement and I can honestly say I had an awesome time hanging with him and shooting’ the sh&@. I can honestly say I made a new friend today and I’m looking forward to hanging out without truck issues next time haha.

If you need anything done, contact these guys and thank me later.

    Maintenance tip:

High CV angles coupled with the dry California climate wreak havoc on your CV boots. A few years ago, a 35 year Toyota master tech turned me on to silicone spraying all rubber boots on my truck as a means to avoid tearing them prematurely.

I use Blaster silicone spray which dries to the touch quickly without making a mess. It’s great for conditioning tires as well. Please excuse the dirty Kings!

A TW member recently had me rebuild his Total Chaos UCAs on a 3rd gen to solve some common creaking noises. Someone had previously attempted to service the UCAs and ended up destroying the bushings, so here are some photos and tips to help other owners avoid some common mistakes.

Unfortunately, the previous mechanic didn’t know to first loosen the pivot bolt and attempted to pump the bushings with a high volume of petroleum based grease. The type of grease was incorrect but more importantly, the bushings were grossly over pressurized and deformed. The same mechanic then smeared the exterior of the bushings in aluminum permatex, I’m guessing out of desperation. The noises didn’t go away.

I removed the UCAs, replaced the bushings, greased with Superlube and cleaned/lubricated the unibals with Triflow, but the extremely loud creaking was still present. With some trouble shooting we were finally able to narrow it down to super dirty and bone dry lower heim joints on the King shocks. The silicone spray in my previous post solved the issue and the owner no longer wants to push his truck off a cliff.

    Key take aways:

    1. Wash your shocks and UCAs thoroughly every time you wash the truck. Get into the unibals and heims with a soft tooth brush, dry them and lube with Triflow.

    2. When greasing the UCA bushings, loosen the pivot bolt, pump only enough grease to start spreading the washers and STOP. Tighten the bolt and bleed off extra pressure via the zerk fittings. An average repair shop might not know how to service these correctly, and will charge an arm and a leg. Anyone can grease them at home with a basic set of tools!

Thanks for trusting us to sort out your truck!

Thanks for the product link! 700lb springs have proven to be a worthy adversary for portable spring compressors. Let me know how it goes. I’m toying with the idea of investing in a portable hydraulic unit.

Didn't get a chance to use @FloTaco 's service, but I can tell you from initial impressions, I wouldn't hesitate to have him work on my car. Spoke with him on the phone and he was able to explain the issues and possible outcomes etc. Thanks again for the sound advice!

I've done 600, 650, and 700# springs w/the SPC ones with no issues.
