nvm, they should not bring the regular cab back. After looking back at this truck it would look very weird

When I was considering a Tacoma, a nearby dealer had an AC OR show up that I bought. I really wanted the 6 ft. bed. The dealer also had a DC with a 6 ft. bed, but that's a long truck and it wouldn't have fit in my garage. I was also looking at a Gladiator, but I just didn't need a four-door pickup. Plus the OR package was well priced with the technology package. I'm thrilled with it.

I'd only consider replacing it if the 4th gen Pro came in an AC. (hint hint Toyota)

There are a couple 2015 access cab trd pro tacomas around. There are only a few in existence.

I really wanted an AC when I went to the dealer, but there was nothing but those "bug man" spec SR's there. I was actually looking for the SX package, but none were available. I picked up a double cab purely because it was the best choice for the money at the time.

Still kind of a disappointment though.

    Skid plate. Running boards.
Say it ain’t so. If the double cad OR came with a six foot box I wouldn’t care as much.

No way the AC is going anywhere. Albeit the group is getting smaller there are still people out there that actually use their truck as a truck and need a 6ft bed.

5ft bed is a joke for hauling - I’m sure I’ll get responses from SB owners with pictures of shit stacked up and strapped in saying it’s fine but it’s way easier to just throw things in the bed and close the tailgate. DCLB is just too long in a taco platform, midaswell go full size at that point.

For some of us with smaller garages, the length of the truck is most important. I need to be able to put a full size cot in the bed for camping. A double cab with a full size bed would not fit in my garage, along with my own view that is seems "too long" in appearance. The access cab + full size bed is what I have with my current 97 and what I ordered for 2021 (OR). Toyota has done a good job providing multiple options and maintaining those options over years, so I hope they continue, although one option they do not provide is a PRO model with an access cab.

Toyota should have continued building the 2nd gen RC next to the 3rd gen DC & AC. 2G RC was already a basic pkg, could have built it as a 5spd 4x4 configuration only to streamline the process.

I don't hate the 3rd gen front end, but it's always been the most controversial part of the truck when it comes to the styling of the Tacoma.

I would have probably bought 2 2nd gen Tacoma RCs sine I got my 2012 by now, if Toyota still built and sold them.

When I went looking for a Taco, I was adamant about having an AC for two reasons. I've owned SUVs and several sedans, I've hardly ever had anyone in the back seat, but I also have no children and I'm divorced, but if I were still married it is highly likely the wife would have a car for carting people around. Back seats are just a waste of usable space for me, in trucks and every other vehicle. Also, having the 6ft bed was important. In my area of South Florida, the DC is very popular and it's mostly pool guys and mechanics who have the AC, and people like me. I've only had my taco for one year, but if something happened to it I'd go right back to looking for an AC to replace it. I'm in the process of removing the jump seats and building that area for hidden storage. The jump seats are even more silly to have in there.

Haha! You have a point. I also have a 4R for that seat in the back.

No kidding ... My AC is sliver. Not my favorite color, but being an OR it was a bit of a unicorn around my area. I removed the dumb jump seats in back and put a Goose Gear flat floor in. The 6 ft. bed I've found is great for that extra space for junk.

It's doubtful it will ever go away, maybe in higher trims though. The bulk seem to be sold in lower and 2WD configurations as workhorses. I have zero interest in a double cab in any truck. Either you're stuck with a stupid short bed length or it won't fit into my garage. No thanks.

I just picked up my used ‘17 Tacoma AC. If I could no longer find a Tacoma in that configuration, I’d be driving another brand who did. I wanted a mid size truck, not another suv, or anything full-size. My Chevy express 5.3 AWD is for work and pulling.

I’ve got a 5 yo son so I do like the jump seats. Looking at the market here in the US and seeing how everyone uses their trucks, I think it would be a huge mistake for Toyota to get rid of the AC. Single cabs I loved when I was young and single, but really have no personal use for one now, but think it’s a mistake not to offer them now. I think to keep loyalty strong, Toyota should keep all the traditional configurations, including manual transmissions.

    A bunch..and no build thread!
I always tell people that I have a pickup truck and they just move on to the next person.

The back seat in the DC folds completely flat. That's a big deal for me. I thinks it's the only mid-size truck that does. Even the 4-Runner doesn't go completely flat.
I need a space for my dogs and the rear deck is perfect in the DC. And the DCSB fits in my garage.
I'd rather have the extra foot of space in the cab than the bed. But that's just me.
