Kicker hideaway- final upgrade to the $250(+) 3rd gen premium upgrade (+Kicker Key 180.4 amp)

I have had the entire system that the OP described for about 1.5 years now. Subaru tweeter upgrade with kicker cs in front and rear doors, kicker hideaway and the key 180.4. I loved it for the price but recently I have been experiencing a few problems and since I am no audio guru I could definitely use some help. First, my front driver side speaker has been going in and out for a few months. I assumed a bad connection but even after replacing the connector the speaker was still not working. When I put my ear to the speaker there was very faint noise but sounded like only the tweeter was working and very faintly at that. I took the speaker from the passenger door and tried it in the driver door and surprisingly, it worked perfectly. Is it safe to assume that the speaker is just blown? Secondly, about a week ago, my hideaway just stopped working. It still turns on (blue light) and the fuse is still good. Any suggestions as to why it suddenly stopped working? Blown speaker on that also?

 

Have you checked the wiring behind the radio/amp? I used the toons harness and the pins that goes into the plug comes loose randomly once in awhile and causes my speakers to go out/static.

 

I have not, that will be first on my list this afternoon.

 

Grab a multimeter, check continuity on both sides of the harness. I mean disconnect the harness from the radio and truck harness, check continuity and maybe resistance from pin, through the harness, to the complimentary pin.

Check continuity across the speaker terminals of the speaker in question. While checking speaker continuity gently push on the cone and let it return to rest. If checking resistance, it should change while the speaker is in motion but the circuit shouldn’t ever open.

Check all of your connections.

Regarding the hideaway, you’d need an Oscope to verify signal but you could check AC voltage on the hideaway input coming from the radio to make sure that is moving while playing music.

That’s all I can think of right now, just verifying things are the way they should be.

I know it was recommended to tap into the front wires due to the voltage, so wanted to see if this taps into the fronts.

 

The thing you linked is a plug-and-play adapter. No splicing needed

 

I may have misspoke. I believe that, previously, you mentioned that the front speakers were the best place to tap into to get the signal for bass. Does this wire tap into the front to get that signal or rear?

 

It taps into the front. I have one from my 2018 that I sold if you want it, all you would have to pay is shipping

 

Did anyone ever come out with a harness or options for the 2020 and up besides tacoToons? I ended up going with their add a sub harness and it seems like I have a poor/loose connection at their harness where the pins goes (seems to be loose and causing static on my Front Passenger speakers). I really hate the idea of having to redo my wiring, but me having to remove the radio and pushing the pins back in every couple of weeks due to vibration isn't ideal.

 

So I’m new to the forum(hello everyone!) excited for my new(old) 1st gen Tacoma upgrades. Recently installed a kicker 10inch hideaway under my passenger seat. Fits perfectly and I’ve messed with the settings(gain & bass boost), but I’m curious if anyone knows how to tune it with a multimeter. I have a mtx75.4 installed under the driver seat to drive the CS and rear speakers I installed. I tuned that with a multimeter but I’m not an electrical guru so I’m confused on how I can properly tune this thing. Just do it by ear? If so how? 3/4 volume and listen for distortion? Any help will be much appreciated.

update-just realized this was a 3rd gen forum but this is a generic question for the sub anyways. Hope it doesn’t matter.

Anybody fit their Key amp under the passenger seat? I may want to install a Hideaway under driver seat some time in the future. My Key is due in 27th - 28th

 

That is where I originally had mine before moving under the driver; hell I installed my friends in the dash above the glove box it's so small. Get some speed wire and extend the connections.

 

Did you run the wires from the HU to the amp under the center console?

Anyone know about how much length of speaker wire I'd need to reach from the back of the radio to the area behind the left rear seat in a double cab?
Trying to make sure I have enough to wire my sub.

 

Has anyone put a hideaway under the power drivers seat? Doesn’t look like much room there.

 

plan for 20. it's probably closer to 10-12, but wire is too cheap to realize you don't have enough

I ended up with 17' of speaker wire that came with an amp wiring kit. Why so little idk. The other week I installed the Alpine power pack and taped the wire for the sub and ran all the wires.
I just got more speaker wire and ran a 17' length for each left and right channel. That seems like it's going to be enough with a bit to spare. Of course I ran out of day light and have not gotten back to finish the install yet. The thing still sounds much better than before with the additional power to my kicker speakers.

Going in steps when I get time and good weather with no garage but I will get it done

Kicker 11HS8 8" 150W Hideaway? I have a shop installing it and they're telling me that it will fit under the passenger seat but the seat will no longer move with it mounted. Not a huge issue but if anyone has had more luck mounting, I'm be interested to hear about it.
