Just got back from my annual hunting trip in Northern Alberta and went to clean off the engine and engine compartment and found out the dealer (I had just taken my truck in for a synthetic oil change) did not replace the oil cap and I'm afraid water, mud and dirt entered the engine. I

checked the oil level and it is at the high normal level mark but I don't want to drive the truck any further due to fear of any further engine damage.

Lots of water, dirt and mud could have entered through the open fill spout.

Has anyone had a similiar situation?

    Much appreciated,
    Al

So they didnt put the cap back on? If they didn't I would have thought you would see oil sprayed everywhere. If you are concerened just change the oil and your'e good to go. Worry about the dealership after that

You'd have to put a lot of water in the crankcase to cause a failure. You're good.

Water is on the bottom first thing for the pump to pick up highly doubtful that kind of water got in.

If it eases your mind you can crack the oil plug on the bottom of the oil pan because water is lower than oil.

You should notify the dealer of the issue and have them document it in case you have any future engine issues. You could change the oil a couple of times over say 500-1000 miles if you're really worried about, but I'll bet your engine is fine.
