However, if one or more heavily shorted stock were to suddenly appreciate drastically in value and then settle in long term gains before the .gov was ready for it, this gives them a nice opportunity to retroactively come after them gainz.

I don't see this coming into law. Too much big money does not want this.

 

What happens when your heavily shorted meme stock suddenly puts you in the top tax bracket? Then you're in trouble.
