If it’s PennDot the chances are pretty good that they’ll start, tear that shit up like a cat 5 tornado came through, and abandon the project for months until they need OT.

I read that PennDOT is short workers for the winter season. The roads are generally poorly kept already, so it may be every man for himself. At least my truck can get through snowy roads. Those with low sitting or lightweight cars? Good luck.

Good morning PATW. I'm back at work since Wed. Had my wisdom teeth removed Thurs morn (I'm 40yrs old.) So it's been a bit of a process. But it is what it is. Didn't look like very nice weather lately, so I don't think I missed much.

Anyways, @Charlie Too I can picture the winter being exactly how you describe. Glad I won't be commuting up I79 to work every day, but feel sorry for those who do (especially if we get a lot of snow this year.)

The only bonus there is maybe less salt and brine on the roads

Just look at 95 near the blue route. It took them almost 6 months to start paving

I would say that the interstates would be better than state roads, but look what happened to the Turnpike in my area back in 2016 o_O

If I didn't have this damn mountain to worry about it wouldn't be too bad. But, it can be a crapshoot sometimes...

That is different having been stuck for hours on shutdown Interstates and Turnpikes any slippery weather I avoid them at all costs .

A nice 2 lane road so easy to turn around and detour around all the stopped vehicles.

Ya I guess I was only just looking at PennDot does the interstates around here and everything else is done by the surrounding boroughs own people. So I didn't really think of anything from I79. Most other areas that I will be traveling around me, won't be PennDot's responsibility. And as far as I know, they townships don't have shortages on workers/drivers, which is nice. But you are right. I would think PennDots first priority would be to do Interstates and then the other less-traveled state roads will be the ones that get bad.

I avoid interstates at all cost even in good weather... My commute is all state 2 lane thank goodness.

However, this is the only feasible road in and out of town. Can be a bear in bad weather...

I'm not sure about that. The state roads here are done by PennDot. I would imagine they do the ones where you are too.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
PennDot is always short workers and always will be short workers. They don't do the work up here. It's contracted out. They only plow an do basic maintenance work. Also, they keep selling off their trucks.

You must be speaking of lovely Pa Route 16 .

I can agree very interesting .

Then I have been of some roads way more fun.

I have over come the desire to go anyplace in nasty weather now I just look out the door go back for another cup of coffee.

That's what the news article I read said they intended to do it they can't get enough workers, contract it out.

I understand. But I'm saying for most of where I am driving in the winter, I am on borough roads (Bridgeville, USC, Mt. Lebanon.) Aside from Route 50 and Rt 19, which would probably be PennDot, most of my routine driving in the winter is just passing through those boroughs mentioned.

    Yup, tis' the road.

I unfortunately can't just rollover and go back to bed. Gotta trudge on into work. However, if it does get bad like the storm we had in '16, yea my ass is staying home. I made the comment at work that 4WD was to get me home, not to work. Was not well received at all...

I live off of Green Garden Road and it is not well maintained, although it does sit on a ridge, which may make it a challenge. Some of the other state roads, like St. Rt. 18, Brodhead, and Shippingport Hill fair better, especially the latter since it is one of the ways in and out to the nuclear plant.

Over the years my response has always been give me a Company 4x4 vehicle I will be here no matter what.

Though it did suck to be the only one of a few to show up to the job site

I have had some decent vehicles over the years
