Doncha just hate it when a tree sneaks up behind you...............

I'd call it a lesson learned, then live with the "kink" as a reminder.

The reminder: Turn around to look behind the truck while in reverse.

    Sir,

You need to understand that some areas in the U.S. have moving trees. Obviously, the OP lives in one of these areas. I live in an area where the trees can quickly shift directly behind my truck. No amount of "look behind the truck" will help. The trees are too shifty.

Just a few weeks ago I discovered that brick retaining walls can also quickly shift to directly behind my truck. I built the wall myself and somehow it became shifty.

Don't believe it? I have proof: Just this summer I backed into a shifty tree beside my driveway. Not two weeks later, over 500 miles away from my home, I was turning around in the middle of an open field and backed into the same exact tree.

You cannot try to explain away this phenomenon by reminding others to "Look behind" them. It just makes you sound self-righteous and, frankly, a bit loony. :der:

You will need to remove the tailgate to access the damage so you may need to take off the bumper first then put it back on. If you have a way to tie down the truck so it can’t move or at least limit the movement that would be ideal but it might be a little challenging. Then you will need to get ahold of the bumper on or as close to the area the put the damage in as possible and apply some force in the opposite direction. I heavy duty come along or even another truck but that can get a little sketchy. Then slowly apply your force then stop work the metal a little bit with a large hammer then repeat. It won’t be perfect but you should be able to get most of that wrinkle out.

Tie a chain or rope to the circled area below. Tie the other end to the same tree. Drive away at 5-10 mph. May fix your bumper, may cause more damage. This is not financial advice.

I wood think that the tree being there in the first place is the root of the problem.

head to a body shop with a frame puller, they can straighten it out. Otherwise do it yourself with a winch and a few precisely placed snatch blocks. Slow down in reverse, looks like you hit that doing about 20-30 mph

Op's Taco don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, OP's Taco don't like people laughing. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, OP might convince his Taco that you really didn't mean it.

Been there and done that, now when I go to my local ALDI'S I try to remember not to back in, as those cement foundations are invisible and stick out enough from the pole to cause a nice dent.
