Nah, all told that's 38 seconds of downtime in six hours of internet that is way faster than HughesNet. I'd take beta Starlink over my old HughesNet all day everyday, it isn't even a close competition.

Just set it up at the parent's. No problems watching streaming content, vid calls are a bit jumpy occasionally but functional enough, and that's on a temporary mount on top of the truck. Gotta get a real pole set up for it, but beyond that... good stuff.

So.. they're probably not going to invest more money into more ground stations. I'm glad I cashed out, will try again if and when. Meantime HughesNet has upped their game, and since we're not power users, it'll suffice. Looking at the satellite map, all I can say is.. wow, such empty. Sure looks like they're after the population centers. Lotsa people farther south than us now participating.

Ground Station locations are based on fiber routes to be close to internet switching hubs to minimize latency. There aren’t many of those that have multiple carrier networks (Lumen, Verizon, etc) in sparsely populated areas.

Plus the next round of satellites will be able to communicate with each other and not need ground station links. Yep, Elon is definitely not investing anymore money into this.

It’s got to be balanced. If there’s a gap contributing to ‘huge’ latency, they’ll probably drop in a ground station where it makes sense.

The app now has a speed test that checks both your device's connection and the direct speed at the router. My router is in a weather proof box outside of my house through three walls from where I did this test.

Processed the deposit? that makes sense its a refundable deposit to hold your position in line. Not a promise to give you service when they take the money.
