    Well, point of conversation.

Had a Tacoma struck by lightning in the tailgate.
(I wrote about this a few years ago aka lightning truck..)
Over $10,000 in electrical parts and labor..
    The insurance company was awesome.
There were like 8 system’s down.
I would diag and call and explain and fix. Then another system same.
After 2 times with this, the insurance adjuster gave me the green light
To diag and repair (within reason) and walk it down the line.
Made it so much easier and, it saved the insurance company money by eliminating
    Down time and retracing steps..
After that ,with this insurance company and this adjuster, if they found out it was me
working on the vehicle, I would get the green light. Customers got their car back like
    30% faster…

I think those days are over

Sadly I'd say you're absolutely correct about that.

Mine was struck by lightning in the front yard, hit the hedge next to truck and traveled through passenger side rear wheel. $6000 in parts & labor, $500 out of my pocket.

Replaced a bunch of stuff and I was on pins and needles driving for the next 6 months. No issues since!

My hunting buddy in GA wanted to buy my truck but I was afraid to sell it after it had been fixed. Glad I kept it now.

On today's episode of something simple that turned into a fucking disaster...

So the reverse light bulb has been out on the beater for a while. Guess it was time to tackle it.

This is where it all went to shit. Apparently over the years water was seeping in and the bulb and socket pretty much rust welded itself together. Well damn. Crushed the remaining parts of the old bulb and sprayed some juice in there to get it freed up. Took a good while, but I finally got that corroded bastard!

So, I took a scotch brite and contact cleaner to clean up the socket. Put a nice dab of dielectric grease in there and popped the bulb in. Nope, still didn't work. Fuck. Had to squeeze the connector together a little bit. After that, we got success!

(don't mind the vice grips holding up the hatch...)

All this fuss over a got-damn $.50 1156 bulb! :annoyed:What really surprised me is the Carquest still had bulk packs they sell individually off of still. Was fully expecting to have to buy the LED 2 pack as 1156's seem to be getting rarer by the day.

So it should pass inspection no problems now. No, no, not really, but that would have failed it.

Oh, also found out that 6,000 RPM's is probably not a thing I should do. Sorry for the oil fog dude in the F150, but you were coming up fast when I pulled out and had to go :spy:

I think it was just burning off all the crud. I haven't driven it that hard in a long time, if ever. 5k is about the most I've taken it. It actually sounded pretty good, loud, but good at that RPM.

After all this, how will you ever let it go? It is like you were meant to be together.

Yea, it's turned into a love/hate relationship. I drove it around the area for a hour today and no real issue. It's a little cantankerous when cold, but after that it just keeps running.

Took the sale listing off marketplace yesterday actually. Gonna put it in my garage this winter and repair the rockers and shock tower. Gonna order and replace all the upper and lower control arms, new cv shaft, tie rods, etc. Hoping I don't have to pull the engine and Trans to fix the speedometer. Hoping for just a sensor issue, but a funny feeling tells me it's the gear in the transmission. I'm going in deep in this thing it appears.
