I so want to move to MT. I love mountains, cold and snow. My wife and her parent's have lived in the Boston area and Minnesota, so they are not nearly as keen on the cold and snow..........

And there are no big IT companies / jobs in MT (or WY, ID, SD, ND,......), and I haven't yet landed a permanent work from anywhere job, so I am still stuck the Workers Paradise of Kalifornia.

I would hibernate through the winter if I could. We get very little snow, if any, and it doesn’t get all that cold. I still hate it.

Can't remember what you do for a living but IT is a fairly broad term so while there aren't any corporate giants here (thank god) that doesn't mean that there aren't tech jobs that would allow remote working flexibility. Make a plan and get out! Pretty much anywhere is better right now. My sister in Loomis is currently considering Tennessee because MT has priced them out.

No matter what you do just don't move without housing lined up. The market here is insane and folks are holding out for a piece of the insanity. We got lucky to move before the market went to crazy.

Good luck on your escape :oldglory:

You live at a very beautiful place.
    I'm a little envious...but only a little.

    Nothing about the wind?
But I guess you're not out on the High Plains proper.

    Story Time With Gritto

Long ago I lived, briefly, in Laramie Wyoming.
BTW, the elevation is over 7,000 feet, IIRC.
It took awhile to get used to that.
Going from Cheyenne on I-80 up to the pass, I don't think my Pinto-Saurus wagon got over 40 mph, flat out.
From there, I coasted in neutral the whole way into Laramie (it's a fairly gradual grade)...and that was a long way. o_O
There was a Titty Bar at the top of the pass, called, wait for it...The Summit Bar and Grill.
A God forsaken looking place with hardly any other buildings nearby.
Me and some buddies would go there from time to time.
    But that's another story.

The saying there about the weather was something like this:

The Four Seasons of the Wind:

    Horizontal Rain (Spring)
    Horizontal Dust (Summer)
    Horizontal Aspen leaves (Autumn)
    Horizontal Snow (Winter)

Anyway, the wind really built up a head of steam across the high plains between Centennial and Laramie.
