Whatever you do don’t let anybody talk you into the Subaru tweeter upgrade, it’s not worth it

Have you heard about the Subaru tweeter upgrade! It's worth every penny.

Worth it, is subjective. Less than $100 and can be done in 30-45 minutes. No matter what upgrade you do, replacing the tweeters is in the mix so doing this inexpensive upgrade is a good starting point. If you still want better sound then go for it, but unless your a serious audiophile this simple upgrade satisfices a lot of people. As they say YMMV, but then again it's not a lot of cash to give it a try.

I did the upgrade and didn't really notice the improvements until I had the amp powering them and had the sub in. I wouldn't call myself an audiophile by any means but I do enjoy clear, crisp sound. To me, the upgrade was worth it.

$90 is pricey for tweeters, might as well just get components

I thought the improved audio was worth it, but I'm not an audio expert. So, what's and alternative for upgraded tweeters, basically plug and play, for less the $90?

I bought the Subaru tweeters and honestly hardly any sound difference at all, for the time and money it was not worth it. People on here will tell you it’s a super amazing audio upgrade, but literally sounds the same. I sold them and bought a set of components (speaker and tweeter set) for the same price. That was actually worth the time and money and made a huge difference.

Chances are if you’re ripping apart your truck for audio you want it to sound badass. Do it right the first time and you won’t have to rip it apart twice

I wouldn't bother with the rear speakers unless you get an amp. The stock head unit gives them basically no power.

Pretty much what I did. Infinity Kappas (too much speaker honestly), kicker tweeters, kicker hideaway with a powerpack. I'm happy with the sound.

Did sound deadening on the doors and back cap wall. But can't really comment on how much each improved the quality since I did it all at once.

    I did the following:
    Subaru Tweeter
    Kicker front door speakers
    Kicker rear door speakers

Definitely improved things considerably. I was bored, saw the Kicker amp thread and how to make the harness, so I did that next.

Big improvement again for the sound.

I'll be doing some Noico noise mat this weekend as I have some long drives ahead of me. Hoping to notice a little change between the 4 doors and back wall.

Well okay then. I put them in two gen 3 Tacoma's I've had and was happy with the sound improvement. I'm not an audiophile, but enjoy improved audio at what I think is a reasonable cost that's a simple install. I'd do it again... so to each his own. Like they say, it's my money and my ears.

I finally got my Alpine power pack installed today. Man does it make a difference. My kicker DS speakers and Subaru tweets actually sound like they have the power they always needed.

The only thing I wasn't sure about was if i adjusted the gain okay. I started with where it was out of the box. Put the volume up to like 45 then backed it off till I didn't hear and distortion. That was like at the first line above minimum. Then I realized that the music I was using was FM radio and not as clean as a CD but we don't have CD players like when I set up amps years ago. I used some hi bit rate digital files. That seemed better and I was able to increase the gain a little more. Still I'm only a bit higher but between the 1st and 2nd marks. I do have the rear a hair higher to compensate for the factory radio being more front biased.
@Speedfreak curious how your gain is set and if I got it set ok.

I found my headunit started distorting at 43. So I set my gains at 42. Sounds like you set yours pretty similarly.

    Work in progress...
I had the exact reaction after installing the new tweeter. My normal FM radio sounded the exact same. When I streamed tunes off the blue tooth audio, however, I was amazed. I can only tell the difference when I play music over the blue tooth.

    Very cool.

I have my wiring pre installed for the sub woofer just didn't have time to get that in today but so far it's an improvement.
FM is better but the biggest difference is with high bit rate music I bought form Amazon or riped from CD and even iHeartRadio via Android auto sounds great. I was just rocking out to some Black Sabbath on the way home from dinner!

I vote for OEM Audio +. I went all in and did the complete system with 2 separate amps and 2 subs. It cranks. Sounds clear all the way to max volume. I originally started with the single sub setup and felt something was missing. The single amp powered everything including the sub. So, I decided to the buy an upgrade they offered me, adding the second sub and amplifier. What a big difference! The other nice thing is having a gain control knob in the dash to change the sub volume at will.
