I received my Bilstein 6112s from Wheeler's today and requested they be assembled on clip setting 4 instead 5 like they usually assemble their Trail Pro kit. The goal was to not max out the spring preload in hopes the ride would be a little better.

However, when I opened the box I saw they were assembled on setting 5 like Wheeler's normally would. So much for paying the $90 assembly fee to not have to mess with this.

I read that Bilstein designed these to maintain ride characteristics through all settings. My question before I go break out the spring compressor - how much difference in ride is there between the two height settings due to increased preload?

I know this isn't answering your question, but was your request documented in the invoice/order? If so, I'd be going back to them for some type of recourse.

Called, asked why I paid the assembly fee when the note on the invoice indicates setting 4. Only answer they offered - "guess the assembler screwed up"

And they offered nothing for their F up? If so, that wouldn't fly with me.

We share the same thoughts. There are several other vendors on here that will appreciate my business. That's all I'm going to say on that.

You can't send them back? I guess this is a reminder for me not to buy my shocks from Wheelers...

Here’s the paperwork that comes with the 6112s. Just got mine in today. Had to order locally after cancelling with Wheelers since they kept my money for 5 months with no shipping estimate.

Sorry, just noticed you asked for difference in ride and not difference in height.

4 and 5 don't ride much differently, but you do lose favor of geometry, and it will sit very high, so you may end up with a level truck.

We just lowered a buddies from 5 to 4 at work because with load it sat front high. (6112)

I personally wouldn't set any brand to max. These trucks work best at 2"

Thanks for the help all, kind of what I was leaning towards too. Wanted to stay closer to the middle of the range instead of going as far as possible. I called Bilstein and they said they were designed to keep their characteristics at all five settings, but setting 5 would max out the preload. Kind of a non-answer but expected since every case will be different.

Off to the store to rent a spring compressor while Wheeler's laughs at me and pockets the $90.

I called a few times and bugged them about my shipping. First time they said they were waiting on right rear shocks. Second time they said they had plenty of shocks but were waiting on the 1/4 top plate spacer which had a month lead time. Told them to ship, cancel the spacer and got one from Headstrong in two days after a good phone call. If I'm ever in a position where I'm buying shocks again, it'll probably be through Headstrong.

So did you explicitly ask Wheeler's to refund you the $90? If not, I'd call them back (speak to a manager if it gets to that point) and tell them at the very least they should refund the assembly charge, especially given the fact that you'll now be out the additional time & money it's going to cost to correct their mistake.

Here is my truck with 6112's set at setting five with bilsten coils. The back has 5125's set at setting 5 with all pro expedition spring packs. It did lift my truck 3.5 inches all around without any lean. The ride isnt bad at all. It actually feels like my stock 01 trd first gen.

I would really press wheelers for a refund. That is BS. O'REILLYS has spring compressors to loan for a deposit when you bring the tool back they give you a complete refund.

Just got done with two marathon days in the shop. Did the lift, ECGS bushing and SPC UCAs all at once. I'm definitely calling Wheelers tomorrow as I had to hit up three different stores to find a spring compressor that would fit the 6112 body. I dropped it down to setting 4 but after seeing my numbers and my CV boots, I might even go lower. Back of the truck went up 3 inches or so, but the front is sitting at 4.5" higher right now. I expect it to drop a little after rolling it so it settles out from being in the air and then some more as the springs seat, but my CV boots are pretty crowded right now.

When I disassembled the shock to change settings, I made sure all parts went back per the diagram so don't think I've got anything flipped.

Before it was 20" front, 22" rear from hub center to fender. Now it's sitting at 24 1/2" and 25".

They tend to settle down, it's always scary when we put the 6112's down before the test drive lol.

After running down the street and back it dropped to 23 1/8. Looking forward to it settling a little bit more, but really just glad I don't have to break out the spring compressor again.

Gave Wheeler's another call today and explained that I spent about three hours finding a spring compressor that would work and reworking the 6112s to sit at the 4th setting. They double-checked my order and confirmed it should've been at the 4th setting, requested pics of them installed to confirm I changed it to the 4th setting and said I should get the assembly refund soon. Thumbs up for Wheeler's service after calling them a second time.

Glad to hear. I'm surprised they wanted pics of them after install and not before when they were still at the 5th setting.

I'd imagine you still need to get an alignment, which will have an impact as well.

I have them maxed out, no complaints on ride quality. I only got a 2.5" lift up front after settling.IMG_20210603_184527269.jpg

I was also one of those people who gave wheelers money for 5 months. Won't be buying from them again.
