Well, it hasn't been a "stock car" for decades! Maybe the circle boys can show IMSA how to put on a race that excites anyone, and they can merge the series! IMaNASCSA!

agree 100%, with the banning going on, I don't watch anymore. So I went back to one of my favorite sports of my youth. The PBR, man those dudes are some serious adrenaline junkies.

They give a much better show.
The political bullshit rules drive people away.
Something happens away from racing and they ban you.
Once you sign that contract they own you.
    How you walk
    Talk
    Cut your hair
What you do away from the track.
And the wife’s or girlfriends have obligations also.

    Good morning, everyone!!

No one showed up to start work on the bridge yesterday and it is pouring here now...and supposed to continue all day. Maybe Wednesday.

I used to listen to the Indianapolis 500 on a transistor radio when I was a kid...those were the good old days of racing.

Lynn, her mom and I are getting our Covid 19 boosters today.

    Be safe out there!

Welcome aboard. Cooler is behind Mikes chair - he hides it.

    We should have taken bets!

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porchies! Well, back at normal stuff. Got a spot to till and rock. Going to end up taking that foam board back - got home and realized it wasn't the same as I really planned on. No biggie. Hoping for a good drip from the predicted storm tonight, so I don't need to water again. Have a good one!

Indy cars? Yup, Sid Collins was the Memorial Day voice of my youth! Took hours to listen too! Those dumb european go-carts they race there now are a waste of oxygen........ Grandpa was a reserve policeman and worked there yearly, month of May - and my uncle Joe was the gate guard at Gasoline Alley for many years.

I agree. I used to go watch them in Hagerstown MD. Get there early and sit up high in the stands. The cars throw dirt 10 rows into the stands. Like watching a go car with a 427 engine installed. I love it.

More good news, my second Covid 19 test came back negative. Still not sleeping too well but I can manage.

Still nothing better than sprint cars on a dirt track. Followed by either a figure eight and may be a chain race or a destruction derby.

It seems like every fairgrounds around here "HAD" a dirt track, the one in Lehighton Pa had a 1/2 mile dirt track which I think was pretty big back then, that came to an end in 1958 when two people got killed and others injured when a couple of cars jumped the fence. The big draw then was the dirt track in Nazareth Pa., and the hotshot driver most mentioned at one point was some guy named Mario Andretti!
In the early 70's it was fun to occasionally go to Reading Pa with a dirt modified driver I knew, that's when the dirt modifieds were running 426 Hemi's, 427 Fords, and 427 Chevys, mostly 427 Chevys at that time.
All I know is those guys spend a heck of a lot of time and money on their race cars!!!!!!!

I had a friend, when I lived in Reno, that had a brother, in SoCal, that raced blown alcohol hydro boats.
That was the early and mid 80s. I saw a boat go into the crowd. That was some crazy s#!t man. All over in a few seconds.
The driver sat "ON" a seat with a lanyard to a parachute. Now I believe they are required to be in a case. I have not followed it in years.

A little something every chance we get.
All this old racing talk and I'm back in the 60's (without the Flux Capacitor!)
Sid Collins and Paul Page on the transistor, turning it over to the corner announcers, for well over 4 hours!
The lead up to Indy was in print; daily stories in the Kalamazoo Gazette. The incredible descriptions (to a young mind) of Offy's, Turbines, Novi's (the scream!), and those new rear engine cars with spaghetti out the back, trumpets on the tops.
Weekly stops at Michigan News on my bike comic book run all over town - the MARC Times came out on Wednesday, and Dad and I had to have it. Covered tons of tracks from the NE to the Midwest - most all of the Michigan tracks. Plan our weekend, sometimes we'd venture as far as Indiana and Ohio - never made it to the NE because of time and distance for Dad (I was still just a navigator)
    • Kalamazoo Speedway - fastest 3/8 mile in the US at one time. Track is now worn into a permanent circle. Sub 12 second late model laps
    • Galesburg - home to more "strickly stock" cars than any other track
    • Hartford - formerly a fairgrounds - converted to a fenced half mile flat dirt. Dirt, not clay - hosed down between every race. Most every class ran. (Took a nephew and my son there a few years back - they did NOT water anymore!)
    • Butler, in Homer - featured multiple Super-Modified classes on high bank clay - years before they ran sideways. So, in those days, you had the classic Indy look, old Japlopy cut up, and just starting butchered up late model (but not stepped on)
    • Berlin, in Grand Rapids - like Butler, but paved high bank 1/2 mile - FAST FAST FAST!
    • Lansing - more stock Late Models than any place else we went - all the guys on the East side of the state were there, and most of the ones I knew on the West side showed up for their big feature purse.
So many more. I loved every class, everywhere we went was just a different flavor. Heats almost always started a dozen cars - features sometimes 50+ - incredible on a 1/4 mile! No more local tracks here anymore. At least Mom & Dad got to see my lifetime dream at old Austin Speed-O-Rama! The end of the dirty T-shirt and jeans era!
