I have an oil change coming up on my 3G. A couple electrical generation projects I am working on are now stalled due to zero availability of Diesel Engine oil, in any quantity, where I live.

Anyone starting to see this with 0W20? Should I be panic buying?

I noticed a pretty lacking supply of diesel rated oil at my local Tractor Supply the other day. I haven't bought any 0w20 in a while, but every manufacture makes it. However you might not get the exact brand you are looking for and will have to settle for a different brand. Hell in the 3.5 2GR I'm sure you could use a 5w30 for a change or two if need to be. I'm sure the owners manual Nazi's will come after me for saying that

I bought some Mobil 1 0W20 @ walmart.com late last month (before the rebate ended on Sept 30 2021).

I've noticed my local Walmart out of some varieties and figured it's just because our local Walmart sucks. Then found the same situation at the larger store in Lincoln NE.
I've been buying the 12 quart box and have enough for awhile.
    Panic though:notsure:

Nope. Costco and Advanced Auto shelves were fully stocked when I was in the past 2 weeks.

It’s the diesel shops that can’t get any engine oil. They are literally sidelining freight trucks now, which of course exasperates the situation.

Saturday I had to stop at three different gas stations to get two quarts of oil for my kid's old Accord. I thought it was just happenstance.

    Yeah.
I just did my annual oil changes on 4 vehicles, was able to get plenty of Walmart Supertech 0w-20 for 3 of them and 5w-30 for one.

Hah. If this gets out of hand, we’ll all be doing 10K oil changes whether we like it or not.

I don't believe that for a second. I'm a class A CDL driver and I can tell you there's no talk of oil shortages around here. Rotella sucks anyway, most companies use LE.

Just took a while to work through the system. “Supply crisis”. Not my words.

    Yeah
Since you seem to think I'm personally attacking you I'm done here.

Call LE and inquire about supply if you'd like to for personal reasons but you have nothing to prove to me bud. There will still be gasoline engine oil on the shelf next time you need it. Carry on.

I don’t think you are attacking me at all. Text has its limitations. I’m just generally curious about this situation now that I’m seeing it first hand.

Im all good with your observations, and thank you for them.

If you are seeing motor oil running out locally, it's likely the same supply chain issues that are affecting virtually every other product on the market. I don't believe it's a genuine "shortage" issue so much as a "can't package it and get it to stores fast enough" issue.

Grease is something that folks seem to genuinely be scrambling to get. The big Chemtool explosion put a serious dent in the supply as they made grease for a number of big brands including Shell. That plant was the largest industrial grease producer in the US.

    https://www.mystateline.com/news/cause-of-rockton-chemtool-fire-ruled-accidental-says-fire-chief/

The other grease manufactures have increased production to try and compensate but I know we are selling a LOT more grease since that accident (we sell TRC) because it's harder to find locally.

What I noticed a couple of weeks ago at Walmart was except for a few off brands, there was almost no conventional oil on the shelves at all. Plenty of choices for Synthetic across all brands and weights and a few choices of semi-synthetic. I then went to AutoZone and saw the same thing. I ended up with Castrol High Mileage 5w30 semi-synthetic. I also noticed that the price difference between conventional and synthetic is only a few dollars now.
