    Just the basics
This thread has slowed down quite a bit. I just got the "New Oasis 22L" pack from Teton sports. What sucks is the black pack is a fairly new acquisition to replace the older Teton Oasis pack. The new pack looks almost like coyote brown in the pics but its the OD green color. Looking forward to trying it out.

Works pretty good and definitely opens up more options of food to make. Two extra burners on top is a bonus. Nice as you can use the oven to keep stuff warm while rest is cooking. Only downfall is there is no set temperature….so you have to watch the temp and play with the dial to regulate the temperatures. Overall, i like it and brought it with me on every camp trip this summer.

This seems like a fun thread to get in on. I’ve gotten back into backpacking over the last couple years and have fallen down the ultralight rabbit hole. My current setup is sitting around 15# base weight so I have a ways to go.

You can only go so low before camping becomes uncomfortable. I have settled on about 10-12 pounds base and can pack food for 4-5 days with 1 liter of water in pack and pack will weigh in at around 25lbs. I have mostly light weight gear but have a couple luxury items, Nemo Tensor wide regular which weighs in at 1.25 lbs, on the heavy side for a pack pad but damn thing is super comfy.

I’m actually working on getting my gear dialed in more towards comfort and compact. When I find a great sleeping bag that is smaller than my current mountain gear and maybe a better mess kit I’ll be pretty happy. I free up weight and space to allow for more/better food. I love to bring good food and enjoy the experience

I was sub 10lbs base weight for awhile, but threw in some comfort items, such as a 2p tent and the nemo tensor wide too. If you go down my list, you'll see the items that I'd use if i wanted to go sub 10 again. This is also considering a bear canister in the pack.

Great list! Very well put together. Ill be on the AT in a couple weeks. I need to set aside more time for the trails. I get caught up in Vehicle based camping. Nothing beats a good backpack trip.

Wild how light you guys can get that just backpack. I’d love to go that light while hunting but there are simply items you must have when hunting that you don’t need while backpacking that add a LOT of weight quickly, lol. I always realize how much crap there is like that when I do a backpack fishing trip. The pack is just so light, haha.

I feel ya. I love vehicle based camping, you can bring more friends, family, booze and good food. But being really out in the back country with just your feet and whatevers slung on your back is just as much a good time.

Yeah, I do some fishing myself and definitely know the struggle. I usually end up bringing a small tenkara fly rod and a couple flys, extra tippet and line. That kit usually comes in right under 6oz. good for trout in the eastern sierras, usually lol

I'm sure it's been brought up, but figured the die hards would know.

    Question:

How long to leave clothes on the line that were worn in a high poison ivy environment?

I've left mine on the line for 20 days. There has been many rain showers and drying cycles during this time.

Are the oils neutralized by acid rain and sunshine?

Should I just toss the clothes?

Man, that's a question that has a lot of risk in it. The oil from poison ivy remains even in dead poison ivy for a very long time. It is a very virulent oil too. I read somewhere (not read on the net, this was before there was a net) that the amount of poison ivy oil that could be retained on the head of a pin is sufficient to infect everyone on the planet. If I washed it it would be in undiluted Simple Green, hand wash with rubber gloves, and then let it soak for a few days. Just toss the clothes if you are flush with money. Not worth the risk. What about the soles of your hiking boots?
