This really isn’t just about oil shortages. We’re just now finding out (our) oil is in short supply because the dominoes are falling.
When the dominoes stop falling, it’s game over. And it really may not matter how much oil you've hoarder up.

Wine, yeah, I can live with that

I’ll just go find myself a nice dinosaur and I’ll be ok for my next few oil changes…. Hmmm Google where do I find a dinosaur? :)

I started noticing that even before the pandemic, everyone is going synthetic. I had to go to 2 different stores to find a conventional oil I needed. I think that's just a result of almost every new car now running synthetic.

I haven't looked for the Tacoma (it's a lease and all the oil changes are on Toyota) but Walmart near me carries multiple sizes of the Genuine Toyota Brand oil filters, including the one for my 2016 RAV4, and they were cheap.

Disregard those weenies - the 2GR-FKS is spec'd to run all sorts of oil weights in overseas markets. Just take a look at a Toyota Kluger's owners manual from one of Toyota's overseas websites.

I just got the stuff for my next change. Asked the parts shop how many quarts they had, 81 in stock. I'd imagine any shortage is mostly at the port unloading

Geez, that statistician was really struggling with that last domino. :duh:
BTW, all statistical charts and tests or assumptions rather are flawed as they're based on a sample population of data, but I got a laugh out of it anyway. If you think of any economic scenario as a chess board rather than a stack of dominoes you'll see a lot more opportunities.

I think our "future oil shortage" has less to do with reserves in the ground and more to do with the current global slowdown, less dependency on middle eastern oil, a closure of said pipeline, and a push for green energy, but I could be wrong. us oil reserves

This is supply chain related. A kink in the garden hose. It will pick up, but it takes time and said person needs to take their foot off the hose and let the economy grow. :ballchain:

I'll add that this isn't the first time in history cars have tried to push away from oil. Check out Jay Leno's Garage. He's got ton's of steam and electric cars that are over a century old. Also, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Who_Killed_the_Electric_Car?

Agreed its supply chain related, but a lot of our oil (synthetic and regular) come from U.S. refineries in Texas, Kentucky and other states. It's likely to be unloaded by truck or rail and not container ships.

Nevertheless, I did my part to kick the supply chain and inflation in the shins. :D I bought the last 4 0w-20 5qt jugs from my local Lowes on sale for $21 each with my 5% Lowes card discount and secured an additional $5 rebate on each one here: https://valvolinecashback.com
$16 for 5 quarts is deal I can't pass on! Plenty of 5w-30 to be found here and there. 0w-20 is hit or miss locally, but can be ordered and shipped from several online stores like Walmart.

Wix has shifted most of their filter production to China unfortunately. (Mann Hummel) I've always bought filters from Toyota or Lexus dealers locally in sets of 5 for cheap.

Yeah I think I’m gonna just switch to buying two for $10.00 at the dealer, I’ll just take my seeing eye dog and tell the dealers I’m blind and deaf so they leave me alone, something tells me they’ll fall for it
