Current seeding guaranteed that one of them wouldn’t make it past the first round. Just my opinion but I think Team with most wins should play team with fewest wins first round whether that team is a division winner or the WC winner . It doesn’t guarantee that the best records meet in the LCS but it preserves the possibility.

 

Divisional records show that isn’t the case since that record within any division will always be .500. 5 teams @162 is 810 team games played so an average division would have 405 wins.

All 3 100 + teams were in the two top divisions. They won a lot of games because in general they won no matter who they played.

 

Atlanta beat the 106 game win dodgers 4 games to 2 to win the NLDS. Against 107 game win San Francisco, Atlanta split with 3-3 wins each in the regular season. Winning the most games in the regular season doesn’t assure you that you will be the best team at the end of the regular season. Only winning in the playoffs is what counts. If the Giants were the best team in the playoffs they would have beat the Dodgers, they weren’t and they didn’t.

 

This is a good point. In 2014 the Giants were the road wildcard team (bottom seed), but we’re playing great at the end of the season and won the World Series. Regular season is all about getting to the playoffs, it doesn’t guarantee anything. I was just surprised all three 100 win teams are gone.

 

I agree mostly. I’m not detracting from what the Braves have done against the Brewers and Dodgers. When you win, you get to keep playing, lose and you’re done. In ‘14 the Giants had a ho hum season but won it all. In ‘12 they swept the Tigers in the WS despite being huge underdogs. However, they still set a franchise record for regular season wins and finished ahead of every other team and that was no mean feat for a team supposed to be no better than .500. The Giants had absolutely and without any doubt the most entertaining regular season team in my lifetime but it don’t mean squat in the post season. Like the 73-9 Warriors that didn’t bring home a title, a vastly entertaining season that ended a few weeks too soon. Fwiw I’ll be rooting Braves again, but not very passionately.

 

And I understand the point it’s unfortunate that a 106 win team has to play a wild card game - needs to be a better format.

 

Last year's playoffs had twice as many teams. Sure, it was a super short season, but it was way more entertaining than seeing the same teams in it every year.

 

Really, they should just make all three series (DS, CS, WS) be 7 games. If you have to bump the start of the season up two days to keep the WS from potentially going too far into November, so be it.

Update: Charlie Morton pitching a great game just injured himself on that last throw and exits. Not good. Minters in so I still have high hopes.

 

How many Houston pitches well outside the plate has the umpire called a strike? I count at least half a dozen so far. I call bullshit.

Yeah true. I did see jackson get a checked swing bu the batter called a strike so maybe the calls will even out…

 

Im just messin btw..but overall I feel like there’s always bad calls on both sides. Haven’t fully paid attention to this game though. Didn’t expect Braves to come out like this though.
