Lol thanks man. I ended up going for it, so we'll see how it goes. :goingcrazy:

Edit: it's just a house in my mind and my girlfriend is murder mystery junkie. So it works out :D

One thing to possibly consider. If your house has an unpleasant history and they decide to make a TV show about how bad it is broadcasting it to the world which will inevitably end up online, easily discoverable by a search of the address, this could cost you a lot more at time of sale than it does in compensation for a day rental for filming.

We're renting, so no skin off our back. But I absolutely agree with you on that if that was the scenario. Also we know the owners quite well and they don't mind. :)

Dude use common sense. I have way more important things to do with my time than worry about where you live - that said, asking strangers on an internet truck forum about a mysterious message from a company that wants to put your dwelling place on TV, all the while saying you want privacy challenges my own faint grasp on logic.

Anthony, I've already explained myself. Only you and one other person have been bothered by this enough to post with that kind of response. And I never said you specifically are trying to seek out my address lol. You're reading way too much into what I posted.

I used this forum in the "off topic" section mind you, to ask this question because poeple of all walks of life are members. I don't think that's out of the ordinary. There's a freaking pet section for gods sake lol. Lets move on, people were kind enough to give me solid advice. It's all good. Have a good day.

My take is that it ain't your call but rather the owner of record.
As a tenant I don't think you have any right to agree to anything that might encumber the property.
These guys you're dealing with should be working with the owner of the property.

If it were mine and the outcome of the show may have an impact on my property, (good or bad) I'd be pretty upset that their contract wasn't with me, the owner.
The real Discovery Channel and their team of lawyers and researchers would know this and would have contacted the owner not you.
How would they miss or overlook the Registry of Deeds or local Assessors Office and instead find you, the tenant ?

Very true. These are questions I asked myself since I received the letter. We did a little investigating into that matter but in the end we have permission. So no worries there.

Regarding how this whole process has gone, it really came off semi unprofessional but again I'm new to this so we'll see how it goes.

    I couldn't be faulted here I'd say...

And if you post something like:
Me posting putting a greater digital fingerprint of where you live might legitimately increase the chances of you having an encounter with people you probably wouldn't want wandering by comes from a place of "maybe this person doesn't know how the internet works these days where millions of people will potentially see it who are interested in killing and death."

I was already considering you might not own a house because this is the thing people think of when they do. Some people agree with you, but I think it's counterproductive to the well being of you and your landlord.

With all due respect (and I'm not trying to be difficult or argumentative) this is not a question of your "permission".
There are most definitely worries there.

They ("Discovery") are seeking a legal and binding contract, not something you as a tenant has a right to enter.
That would be between "Discovery" and the Owner.
The owner would then ask you for permission to enter the property.
You may have control of that but not for signing contracts on the property owners behalf, unless you had POA or some other legal right.

I would be doing more than a "little" investigating.
In the meantime, I would definitely give them No more personal information or sign anything.

I'll be broader next time so you won't feel singled out lol

Again, I just didn't want to expand access to the whereabouts in my original post. That's all. If you see this entire thread as a contradiction then so be it lol. No harm no foul . I'm not mad at you for that.

But no I get it and I appreciate your concern and your opinion. I posted earlier that this would be an entire different ball game if it was my property, but the story is already out there and I can't change that. The story is going to be told wether we like it or not. Wether we allow them to shoot one small part of the house for a couple hours or tell them to kick rocks.

Re read the thread, didn’t see it.

Don’t care to the exact cent, but was this for over or under a thousand bucks?

    glad it worked out.
