I've been putting this recall off on my TSS sensor for a few years now, I know there are dozens of posts about it but I haven't seen any recent ones so I am looking to hear from some folks who have lift trucks about if they went with the recall, and how it worked out for them.

I have a 2018 TRD Offroad with a 3" lift (stock grill). Originally, back in early 2019, my dealership refused to touch it. Now they are willing to perform the recall but with the following stipulation:

"When the dealer performs the remedy for Special Service Campaign K0B, PCS will be set to “OFF”, PCS will be configured to retain the last setting following a key cycle. Also, a notification label instructing the driver to only use constant speed control and not to use DRCC will be applied to the dashboard." (I have attached the full document for reference)

Now I could care less about the PCS but I have grown super fond of the dynamic cruise control on long road trips.

So I guess my questions are:

Has anyone with a lifted Tacoma done the recall? If so were there any issues?

If I have had no issues with the TSS system, should I even get the recall done?

Is it worth it to get the foam insulation piece to prevent water damage and add it myself? What do I miss out on by not getting the second part of the recall, the calibration done?

If they perform the recall and turn off the TSS package, can it be manually turned back on each time I start the truck? If so, how?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Well, this is not a fun suggestion, but have you considered returning it to stock suspension for the recall repairs?

Also, if this is a safety recall, are you going to have problems registering your truck when renewal comes up (if you don't get the recall work done)? California (where I live) is pretty restrictive about that stuff... It could be different where you are.

Not sure about any software update with this recall, but I do know that all they do physically is slap a piece of crappy sticky foam over the sensor to keep water from getting to it. I laughed when I saw their "fix". I went a step further and sealed the top and sides of the sensor with some of that Gorilla waterproof tape. Very little if any water can get to my sensor now.

This applies to a grill change even if you only have the front radar for TSS adaptive cruise control?
The sellers of these after market grills usually specify that the radar will be functional with no issues, but make no assurances about the use of the additional front camera on some Tacomas.
With the number of modified Tacomas, especially recent years, I find it hard to think that Toyota cannot accommodate the most common of modifications.

I have actually thought about doing this, I have all the stock suspension parts and stock wheel / tires. I was considering shopping around to see what a swap might cost.

Luckily registration is not an issue, the recall has been out since early 2019 and have had no issues registering.

Unfortunately no and if I took a picture now all you would see the waterproof gorrila tape cover mod I came up with. For this recall, they literally put a piece of crappy grey closed cell foam on top of the sensor housing with some sticky tape to keep water from drippling onto the sensor itself. I will give them a A for idea but and F for execution as their fix really did not seal things up much. I took their idea and went a step or two further and made it very hard for any water or snow to get in from the top or side of the sensor housing with my Gorilla tape mod .
