Wondering if anyone has experienced this.
When sitting idling, I will push the gas pedal to rev it up a bit and notice there is about 1-2 second of hesitation before the engine responds not like any other tacos that I have had. Any vehicle will normally respond right away without hesitation. Is this something that needs to be looked at by the dealer or not.

Now is this seriously 1-2 seconds or does it feel like 1-2 seconds? There is a bit of hesitation on the 3rd gen that can get resolved with a tune. I got KDMax and the response is night and day better.

Sounds normal to me. Mine does the same in neutral, it’s just the factory tune.

Good old cable throttle days are gone unfortunately.

    You manual or auto?

I sometimes experience a bit of throttle lag, and haven't been scientific in determining what circumstances account for or exacerbate it. As mentioned above, I think this is normal for the factory tuning having my 3rd gen since they came out as my sample size of one. ECT button will help, but Tacomas are not race cars or Raptors. Toyota did a lot of the design around gas savings not high end performance.

This! KDMax tune definitely made the lag disappear, amongst other improvements.

Another one for the KDMax. Now i have the opposite problem. Can throw the head back... going to a lighter throttle response tomorrow! Highly recommend finding a tuner in your area.

I think OP is talking about slow throttle response when idling in neutral.

KDMax fixes this. Throttle response much better at a stop and at speed.

i would clean the throttle connection at the pedal with electrical contact cleaner. the ECT button won't do anything for throttle input lag. it just changes the shift points and when the torque converter locks up. 1-2 seconds is a long time. something is obviously wrong.

i'm on my second 3rd gen taco and never had any lag even close to one second.

I’m running premium SFOB and it’s just a hair better when idling in neutral. Once the clutch is pressed the response is instant, go figure.

Highly recommend getting this. The slow throttle response was driving me nuts. It’s almost too sensitive now.

My gut says it just doesn't matter if you have an automatic. Does it get better at speed, or is this only from a stop? With the manual, yeah, welcome to electronic throttles, you can either just work on changing your clutch/throttle timing, or try a tune. I went with the former. If you have an automatic you can skip reading the previous two sentences and just drive it.

My 2016 Subaru did the same thing, I re-learned how to drive manual to accommodate it in that car, same here in the Tacoma. Test drive any new car and I'm sure a non-zero number of them will act the same way, auto or manual.

    this and that...
sprint booster completely nullifies the throttle lag. ovtune will do the same thing but also tune your truck to the parameters you set if you have the hardware and the dongle and not just flashed by someone else. i actually stacked mine together so i could further enhance my throttle response without going back into the computer everytime i want to adjust values. so now i can have my trucks throttle response razor sharp, completely stock or anywhere in between on the fly.

As others have suggested, the combination of throttle by wire and an ECM tune optimized for fuel economy and not performance result in a slightly delayed throttle response in these trucks. It will be noticeable, but should not be 1-2 seconds. If you can physically count to two from the time of throttle input to engine response, there is another problem. If you are in doubt, take the truck into your dealer and let a tech take it for a drive.

Yes it is an automatic. Does it at idling sitting in park. Runs fine once going lots of power. I will mention it to the dealer on my first 5k service. No I do not use or ever did the ECT button. I am new to this 3 Generation . I have had the 1 and 2 Generation but this one is pretty hi tech I guess you would call it.
Thanks all for the feed back.

Push that ECT button for sure. It is pretty bad, IMO, leaving it off. The truck shifts supper early and feels lethargic when pushing the go-go pedal without ECT being on.

When in neutral and idling the throttle response is very slow, absolutely normal. Nothing to worry about.
