Had my tail light busted in a parking lot recently and figured I'd replace with AlphaRex Pro Series LED Tacoma Tail Lights - which I quite like. Super easy to install - you just use your existing bottom light. Took < 10 mins. I'm selling a drivers side tail light if anyone needs one!

Anyway, I thought the body damage would be minimal and it'd be a plug and play, but there's a little gap and one of the metal tabs won't snap in. Its a little short cause the area is deformed. Y'all think its safe from rain/moisture? I was driving around for 2 weeks with it busted and no issues what so ever, the lights even worked!

I imagine a body shop could make quick work of this and even buff out the scratch, add some new paint.

if both the screws from the bed fit, i wouldn't worry about the two pins not snapping in personally.

If the lights are sealed properly they should be good to go, I wouldn't worry about it.

edit: nevermind, that gap is kinda gross, I'd get it fixed because it's ugly, not because it will cause damage.

I'd personally get it fixed since there is exposed metal and wouldn't want corrosion.

Side note: Didn't know the 2020 pro came in cement with TRD Sport graphics :p

Thats not "quick work and buff out the scratch" type of damage.... Your looking at a possible new bedside. The only reason I say new bedside is because all the damage is on a spot thats going to be very hard to repair back to its original shape.

Im a trained autobody tech, and worked autobody for a number of years. I personally would try to fix it, but in the end would end up with a new bedside if I couldnt get the lines right and the mounts straight.

yeah it doesn't really bother me until I look at it from the top down, but it only has like 18k miles on it, so I best get it fixed lol

Yeah its def a really awkward spot, but it doesn't need to look perfect, just be functional and not get worse with corrosion or rust. I'm gonna ask toyota what they think and also get some body shop opinions too

Most body shops are going to tell you "no warranty, no guarantees" if you tell them to make it just functional. They either repair it right or they dont repair it all. You might just have to bite the bullet here and call up insurance or pay out of pocket for the full repairs.

No chance you can find the person who did the damage? or did you accidentally back into something?

I see ... I've never had to see a body shop in ~ 20 years of driving so I didn't know that, guess I'll have to start getting some quotes ... this one was my fault, I backed into the corner of a brick building :(

Get a few quotes, also call a few salvage yards in the area, you might get lucky and find a bedside thats already the correct color that you can just bolt on and be done with it.

Im convinced thats how 90% of the damage done to trucks on this forum is from.
