750 is a tough number if you're new, shy or dyslectic...

750 I feel is a fair number. Honestly I feel like 1000 is a show of total commitment to some extent. It’s not to deter those who want to participate, it’s to weed out those who have a high likelihood to jump ship.

Agree 750 or 1K is fair. Just don’t think it’s fair to take it away from people that fully, fairly and honestly participated in previous years.

The way I see it, TWSS is for the TW community. You shouldn’t qualify if you’re not a part of the community.

Is there a way to get a head count of how many have signed up? :santa2:

Evidently is the correct word in my personal opinion.
You guys are wacking out a lot of folks out that want to be here.
So to justify that what's the history of how many sign-ups there were and were received and how many did not deliver' ie. do you know what percentage of gifts were received?
Why are you locking out members who want and are justified to be here?

If you read the question asked, eventually is a proper answer saying that the number would be released at a future date.

The rest of your post is an opinion piece on why you think (from the outside looking in) more people should get to participate. I promise the elves that have been helping with secret Santa for longer than you’ve been a member of this forum have a decent understanding of what makes for a successful event. If you feel you have a better idea for a secret Santa feel free to start your own. I’ve had shitty Santas and low count recipients and it takes a lot of the fun out of it.

Eventually is correct and appropriate as a response, the request was a head count and the response was that it will be provided at some point in the future, eventually.

To the rest of your comment:

As I understand it, the purpose of the post count minimum is to provide ample material for creative genesis of a personalized gift. It's a crutch to some degree, but it's also a useful assist to those who take advantage of it. It's more fun trying to guess based on a plethora of content than trying to guess based on minimal content.

Nothing prevents anyone who wants to form a more targeted SS pool amongst their own circle from doing so. Side note, I worked with Peter a few jobs ago: https://www.elfster.com/about/

As to "wacking out", are you sure that's the phrase you wanted to pick?

Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled grumbling about the rules...

It’s been over 200 each year and the fact that Standbys are even needed speaks for itself. Some folks are just schmucks. I can go to a dollar store and fill a box, but that’s not the spirit. Even that was too much effort for some. As we all know - all it takes is a few morons to ruin it for everyone.
I for one am appreciative of our TWSS overlords. I don’t know if I would be able to put up with such a headache year after year. :smack:

Honestly, this is an event run by volunteers/elves. If you don’t like the rules, we are not forcing you to participate. We’re not changing the rules just because some folks are upset. We have discussions about prior events outcomes and potential rule changes months in advance. These changes come with many discussions with the community’s best interest in mind. There are things that I see in the background as a moderator that the general forum community doesn’t see and those things can sometimes come into play when deciding the rules for the upcoming year.

I don’t want to see a single complaint about someone’s posts this year. We’ve been flooded with posts, PMs, etc about low post or non quality content in the past. We adjusted the post count accordingly.

If you don’t like the rules, don’t participate. We can’t please everyone.

I do not mean to be the angry Elf in any way.
I just don't understand why past good Elf's are now deported.
If you look at my posts here as compared to someone who has been here as long as I have, you'll see that I do not comment a lot.
I come to TW to see and learn and some chat.
That doesn't mean I need to comment, we all know we have plenty of yappers on here.
@daveeasa , thank you for the correction, but yes that is my New England definition.
