It depends on if you wheel or not.

I think the biggest things people talk about is steering racks and inner cv's.

I read that description and that is why I ask the question. My knee jerk reaction is that if you want to reduce oscillation in the steering system, you should add a damper which I don't think the steering pump could be modeled as. After some further thought, it occurred to me that it could because when the steering wheel is held steady, the pump stops applying pressure, and then when the tire hits a bump the full force is transmitted directly to the steering without any steering pump aid. If the pump is faster at reacting to the bump, then less force (or same force for less time) is transmitted to the steering wheel.

bingo. just allows the pump/rack to be able to keep up with the added stress. its not trying to catch up.

Steering racks have been an issue for a while and multiple people have posted on here about having to replace them.

CV's typically only fail because the tire is bound up on an obstacle, turned at an angle and the front locker is engaged.

yes. again... depends how you wheel. I've gone through 2 racks, multiple CVs, tierods, and LCAs, and even spindles with 33's.

I have been rebuilding the front end and beefing it up during the swap to 35's. Fresh spindles and Gusseted everything.. Dirt King LCAs with Delrin Bushings (the rubber bushings in stock lowers tend to go with heavy wheeling).. Back to Toyota Tierods (they last longer).. DRT Fab Cab mount relocate.. Need to finish my alignment and add my Bison cam tabs or get some Taco tabs instead. Upgraded to 6 Piston Wilwoods.. lots of clearancing.. etc.

Now I keep spare CVs, tierods, etc in the truck. Next big upgrade is steering.. Howe kit and upgraded rack.

Biggest stress is on the spindles. They will bend even on mild stuff so they need gusseted. Other than that things will break based on circumstances. Steering and CVS break but not necessarily from 35s.

Like what do you mean by wheel. There is wheeling and then there is "wheeling". In other words depends how hard you go and other mods done.

ring and pinion for the rear, CVs, spindles, axles, rack, tie rods bending,

    What wears out sooner
ball joints, LCA bushings, brakes, tie rods.

All great info. I have read a lot on upgrading the rack but it doesn’t seem like anything is a direct replacement. Read a lot on lc200 and tundra racks. I wish someone made a bomb proof taco replacement

The Marlin crawler long traveled rock crawl kit looks awesome but typical with the company hard to get info/parts/customer service. Watching as much installs as I can find but it seems the first batch is in only a couple peoples hands and the install is going slowly.

Theres always going to be a compromise with steering, you wont find anything bomb proof without alot of custom fabrication.
Howe rack and pinions are probably the best youll find, but fitting it is extremely difficult.
Lc200 and tundra racks are fantastic and paired with hiem tie rods they will take alot of abuse. But turning in the rocks is still difficult.

Or you could go full race truck and do full hydro

Problem is the dude wants $7k for it without the coilovers. It's neat but I have so many other things I can drop $7k on. I mean i built a set of 1-tons axles for $7k

Ya exactly it’s on the same priority list as a 6k+ supercharger worth like 80hp. I wish I could just solid axel but my state won’t legally allow that

Sick set up. It’s only an overland build/work truck. So trying to find the balance and I can definitely feel the stock rack it now a weak link. Not a huge fan of waiting till something breaks. Need to keep looking into tundra lc200 upgrade (hard to read 10 pages of measurements)
