I can't seem to get a general consensus or answer. For a while I was pretty adiment (or however thats spelled) about getting a cold air intake. HOwever, everybody says to do the deck plate mod. And shoot, for only $15, it sounds alot better than dropping a couple hundo on a cai. Anyways, i get the deck plate mod allows for more air flow. However, isn't it still brining in warm air as opposed to the purpose of the CAI to bring in cold for better performance? I don't know much about this, nor am I mechanically savy, but i thought its worth asking.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
I think the dyno numbers show them to pretty much equal or a slight gain with the DPM vs. the CAI. The real gain is the cost to benefit ratio.

Ive searched quite a bit lol. Alot of the info pertains to the benefits of the mod or as to how to do it. But doesnt really explain the whole cold air vs warm air scenario.

Air temp would be pretty much the same they are both pulling are from the same area of the truck, the front corner. id say only difference is that the cai have a box that traps the air in the corner. i have k&n intake. the deck plate mod would i guess pull in a little warmer air, due to not haveing a box to trap the cold air that comes in as well. overall the temp difference would be minimal and not noticable to the power difference.

    hope that helped a little

Grey wire MOD, deck plate, diff breather MOD, 2nd gen. OME 883# on Tundra 5100's, OMD custom 3" leafsprings, rear shock relocation, Ivan Stewart TRD rims w/285/75/16's, '02 bumper MOD, Famous Fabrications sliders , LED interior/exterior lights, bed bar, Custom tube bumper, Old school KC day lighters,Red Ring 8" HID flood, Kenwood vhf 2M.. umm some other shit I'm forgetting right now
Its my understanding that a true CAI is a sealed induction system that draws ALL its air from outside the vehicle )from just in front of the radiator or similar location & is ducted (& forced) into the TP, make sense I reckon....;)

Makes a little more sense to me now. I think im gonna go with the 15 dollar mod, and save the extra cash from the CAI and buy me something else nifty:D

My example= You know how on cold mornings when your driving, your truck just seems to be running great, nice and peppy and then after a while its just normal again. So theoretically the cai would be doing the same thing but all the time, at least thats how I see it.

Actually, The OEM box with the deck plate installed gets colder air (ambient temp), more so than a "CAI". the "CAI" get their air from under the hood. That silly steel divider they call a "box" does nothing to keep engine temp air from entering the intake track. In testing, a K&N intake produced closer to stock HP (in some cases even less), and the deck plate has always given a gain.
