Just did a full over haul on this thing with custom delrin bushings for the lowers, lower pivots, custom double shear, custom cromoly tie rods, slide rack and TC pump

It’s not mild when it feels like you’re bouncing down the road on a trampoline. My bounce doesn’t sound as bad as @Evenflow but, it’s bad enough that I don’t enjoy taking it down the highway at times. I can watch my dog box in the rear view mirror literally wiggle back and forth over an inch just driving it down the highway.

Oh man, a kit like this for our trucks, that enabled high tuck aluminum skid plates attached to the structure, and mating with the skid from the LCA tab kit would be awesome... basically the frame plate kit plus some tubes to weld in, triangulate, and aluminum skids that attach to the tubes to protect the trans and transfer case, I'd love that.

Huge waste of money and in order to double shear you have to grind powder coat off and then make custom tabs. I’d much rather gusset a stock spindle for $100

    Yes
if you completely belly skid’d your truck you would have to put some serious effort into ensuring you duct in cool air that will push out the trapped hot air. even with my previous 3 piece pelfry skid config my trans would cook the truck to the extent that it would melt ice in my drinks in my center console…and i have 100% dynamat extreme on my floor too.

when these guys build trophy’s and lux pre runners with full belly skids they purposely reconfig the firewall to create ducting to get airflow under the cab

Not to minimize either cause I do remember when I drove this one home from the shop I knew something new was wrong with the center frame section but back then I didn’t have a 1 year old in the backseat nor did I ever really drive it on the highway.

Nope, not looking to belly skid the whole thing, and understand what you are talking about, but if the tubing was right, just around the trans and transfer case, you could have high tuck, aluminum skids that were properly supported as well as only protected what needs protecting, and have way less coverage than the existing 3 piece skid kits do now. The tubing would obviously be able to go back further than the transfer case, triangulating and tying the frame plate kit together with more crossmembers

at any rate, I have a 1 piece trans/transfer case skid now, (most are 2 piece), and it is custom attached to the LCA skid system from JD. Comparing temps of everything that is monitorable with a scan guage, I can't tell a difference in any of the temps. With an improved trans cooler (that I put on before the skids) I can say that I rarely ever get above 180 trans temp, and engine coolant does sometimes creep up to 210 level on steep long freeway climbs when I have my foot all the way into it for several minutes), it doesn't seem to be any hotter than it was before the front bumper and skids... so my assumption is that enough air is coming in past the radiator, and has a place to go... to get out. And I don't have any issues with heat in the cab like what you refer to, and I am not insulated on my floor and I am in Phoenix AZ, where it is hotter than most places...

Got curious and decided to experiment. Probably a bad idea. I doubt boxing that little section and that crossbar will do much of anything, but if it so much as makes me poot easier I’m going to town on boxing and bracing.

I have one located there I don't know if it made much of a difference. It's mostly there to hang limit straps eventually

Is everyone’s frame wavy right there? I thought I had bent it because it looks like a hard hit from the bumps might look, but it’s way too perfect and symmetrical.

Too late to see it clearly now that it’s plated, but if you look at the bump pad area on yours from the inside see if it looks like a wave. It’s too perfect to be an accident. Must be how it’s made. Just looks like it took a ridiculous hard hit with a full bed riding on the bumps haha.

Is that welded to the plate alone, or does it go through the frame too?

Weird design. Pooped a little when I saw it. Had flashbacks of hauling way too much wet pressure treated haha
