    Just the basics
That sucks. I do wonder if it was BLM, tweekers, or some Abby-esque individual who thinks it is his/her duty to remove stuff. I'd hate to leave my campsite (all gear) only to come back to it all gone. That would require a call to authorities to report the theft.

You could argue that chairs and milk crate constitute “trash”. But the part I don’t understand is the “no leaving to reserve”. The way it’s written, you wouldn’t be able to leave the site to ride in the desert or explore. What’s the point of going to the desert if you cannot explore?

There's plenty of it in my build thread, or for a bit more organization, you can go to my web site.

I'd recommend starting in one of these places:
Content at all those places is ultimately the same, but different organization.

I also send out an email each time I post a trip report, which you can sign up for here: https://adventuretaco.com/subscribe/ I hate spam as much as the next guy, so it literally only sends mail with links to photos and the trip story.

    Oh, and thanks!

A weak argument in my case, in that they left the old milk crate and the scrap wood leveling blocks, plus my carpet sample door mat, but took the clean year-old chairs and folding stools. And we were only gone for 8 hours in daytime, out riding. I’m sure it was opportunistic a-holes, not BLM or FS. A lot of camping locations, both free and fee, do explicitly require the site to be occupied at night. I’m all for that.

So, it appears that I didn't escape Steel Pass undamaged after all....

    oops.jpg

Maybe it's time to finally swap in that high-clearance bumper that's been sitting in my garage for two years? Just gotta figure out how to make it work with the underslung spare.

    Oh, and I missed this:

Nope, TW is it for me. Looks like maybe a good idea someday, thanks!

@mk5, what bumper is it? I assumed they would all be compatible with the under-bed spare if they bolt to the frame in the factory locations.

I had good luck finding replacement taillights on car-part.com. $65 shipped for a replacement in great condition.

went petroglyph hunting this weekend & reached my bag limit…the hike was stunning.
while not technically in the park, it’s close enough.
temps were reasonable at 5000’ - 6000’…40 at night & days in the 70’s…first night enjoyed some fast moving air.
    great trip…

Yeah, so that’s me high centered this morning… Steps in Dedeckera are an absolute bitch at the moment. Especially if you are a dumb ass who tries to go up them instead of down…

Anywho, after some investigation and pondering I was able to proceed just by cranking the wheels a bit for better traction and extra skinny pedal.

Oh man, sorry but i have a habit of unstacking obstacles whenever i get the chance too.. That one time when I spent some time unstacking every rock on each ledge in Dedeckera only to help a stock Sequoia up the last two ledges ..

My usual line going up and down ..

Headed back up to the park. My old man is visiting and he likes trains, so I found a good "non-backcountry" spot to camp last night...

On Monday, Kimo gets the last of his puppy shots. After that, I think he’s free to travel.

I may wait a bit to go to dv. Just in case. Long way to go with a screaming puppy.
He’s been doing great on potty training which is awesome.

I know a few people frown on taking dogs to DV, so this advice is for your non-DV runs. Take him young and often. get him used to not only driving, but also the jostling of the vehicle. Though we've taken my 12 yr old in numerous long car rides since his was 6 months old, I just recently got into OR driving and he's not a fan. I think if I did this earlier on in his life and at the end of the day gave him something unique (special dinner, toy, play with other dogs) to associate with OR runs, he'd enjoy and look forward to it more.

Dogs shouldn’t go where they don’t belong. Kimo is not my first puppy and his first ride was 3hrs coming home.

hey guys. my previous plans for DV got scrapes because some friends with 4x4s invited me on a quick offroading trip next month. I'm a lifted prerunner with good tires and sliders. their current plan is go Titus Canyon, Race Track, Lipincott, dip in hot springs, Steel Pass, to Eureka Dunes. Then home. They think I will be fine since Lipincott is downhill and I'm with a group. I'm a little nervous about that trail with lack of 4lo. And Steel Pass I've researched some 2wd can do it going down, but not up... in this case... would I be going down those rock stairs at Steel Pass?

My alternative is to detour from racetrack back up to death valley road and meet them at eureka dunes. how is that road? as always... thanks guys!

You will have zero problem with those roads. From the Racetrack to Death Valley Road it is bumpy with plenty of washboard. Death Valley Road north for me is very fast, some washboard sections, but fast. The road curves thru the Last Chance Range, but zero issues. The road south to the dunes is also fast.

From the Racetrack to the Dunes is ~80 miles.
