Dealers are actually liking this much more than they would like you to know. No expensive floor plan overhead, no old age new inventory, selling every new unit a MSRP or more, customers fighting over trade-ins, no rebates, no discounts.... and if you don’t like the price the next guy is already waiting to buy. Used to have to sell at invoice...I can guarantee if you pay MSRP for a Tacoma, depending on the model, the dealer is making $4000-$6000 each unit. A far cry from living on holdback and F&I like the last 30 years.

100% those were the exact words they told me when I was telling them to take their dealer exclusive Markup off. However, when I was in the middle of purchasing my truck, three guys called about it in half an hour. One guy came in asking about it, they pointed at me and said that Guy is buying it. They did have 2 x 4s, But the sales lady said nobody wants those in Oregon.

Yes. I had a better offer from one dealer, took it to a second dealer (at request of their salesperson, actually) to see if they would work on their price for a similar, but not identical build. Their management ultimately wouldn't beat or even match the competitor price, though they made a few concessions.

I already had them $1.5k below their initial markup ask & had eliminated the spurious high margin dealer add-ons. Basically they said they could sell well above the deal I already had with them. I believed them.

Sure enough, the truck went up on their website after we went our separate ways, then disappeared within a few days. I have no doubt they netted several thousand more than I was willing to part with.

Yes, it does. When my allocated AG TRD OR was a few days from delivery to the dealership, they posted my truck on their website as available. Freaked me out at first but their internet manager assured me that the truck was mine and they are required to do that on every vehicle even if the vehicle is spoken for. It was on the website for less than 2 days and he said they got over 25 inquiries on it.

I also got $500 off my Tacoma because they accidentally quoted me a rebate that did not exist for that truck. That was my big "negotiating tactic," lol.

Great thread y'all. Truck shortages, Pet food shortages, ammo shortages, labor shortages, critical thinking, truck shortages again, it's got it all.

We did most of the shopping on-line, so much so that when we arrived at the final destination, we thought we got a good price on one of two identical Sienna left on the lot that had just arrived.
We immediately jumped on it without asking for any discount, but the sales guy gave us the $500 rebate, so it was around -$500 from MSRP. And we were shopping from TX-FL. As soon as we bough it, the remaining one has a buyer looking to get it lol!

    Yay! Poor sales people.
But on the positive side, I hear truck drivers are in the driver's seat of this labor shortage fiasco.

The fundamental method of operation for EVs is ‘chips’. Not just the small chips used for processing data, but also large power transistors that regulate power flow to the motors. These large “chips” are also now in short supply.

The Sienna's look like they ride nice. A couple weeks ago I was at the Toyota dealer picking up a new washer fluid reservoir for my truck and out of the 30 or fewer new cars on the lot 2 were sold as I was leaving. A younger couple had just bought a red Sienna, and another older couple had just bought a Black Rav4.

A couple days ago I drove past the dealer again on my way to run some errands and noticed several new Highlanders parked towards the front of the lot maybe 10-15 and a handful of new, but not new body style Tundras maybe 6 or 7.

New cars appear to be arriving slowly, but they're also continuing to sell quickly. Also, dealers appear to be getting shipments with several of the same model vehicles at a time. Another nearby Toyota dealer has a small shipment of Tacoma's coming in soon, but they're all 2wd and very low optioned. I'd guess 4wd parts are on backorder or they don't have the chips for the system. :notsure:

I've noticed the used cars appear to going unsold for the most part. High prices most likely.
Still hoping one of these days I'll get to test drive a Tacoma with a manual trans for comparison. :burnrubber:

The Sienna does ride nice, and get great MPG. My friend is delighted with his rated at 36mpg, he swears is more like 38-39. They're a favorite of taxi drivers, uber and people carriers because of the comfort, convenience and noted TOYOTA bullet proof reliability.

am Pro grille w/lights, black tailgate letters, black badging, 265-70-17 Duratrac "c", Rear seat platform,
Our Toyota dealership has about 5 new vehicles on the lot. Three are already sold. We also have a giant banner out front saying "We want to buy your car". The only cars that make it to our new car showroom are actually newer used vehicles. No use moving the new ones into the showroom because they will be sold within a few days. We are now starting to run out of used vehicles as well.
The auctions are drawing huge money making it difficult to keep nice vehicles on the lot without paying too much ourselves. 80-90% of incoming new vehicles are sold before they hit our lot. I've never seen anything like this in my 36 years in the Detroit area dealerships. I was recently offered more for my 2017 Sport AC in Inferno than I paid for it 2 years ago so they could "upgrade" me to a 2018 DC SB SR model. Yeah right.... Lose my Sport extras and my long bed for a one year newer base model?. I don't think so....
