you dont need the sticker. the smog tech does not want to do his job.

 

You don't HAVE to have it, but it sure does make the smog process a lot more expidient.

Sorry, i cant necessarily agree with this. My last smog test (2019), i was declined at two shops before finding an empathetic smog shop/tech.

The 1st shop that declined me just didnt want to hassle with a vehicle with mods when he had a line of corollas/accords/camrys to smog. The 2nd shop wasnt cool that I didnt have a sticker for the trd blower, even though I brought paper documentation. He was adamant about the sticker. The 3rd shop was a toyota enthusiast, and didnt hassle me at all.

I have now obtained the official carb sticker for my truck and will need to test again before December.

Your success for passing smog without the carb eo sticker will depend on a combination of luck, timing, laziness, and location.

 

Another member in SoCal has a bunch of reproduction stickers for D-425-37 which cover 2005-2011 Tacoma model years with 1GR-FE.

 

Just for shit n giggles...

Trying to pass smog with legit mods that have carb eo #s but w/o a sticker...

...is a whole LOT EASIER, than trying to pass carb smog with mods that do not have a carb EO number.

You Cali guys. I know it's a beautiful place, but shesh! The shit you put up with. Just come to TX. Yes, it's hot, but you can still put a flag in the back of your truck and stuff.

 

CARB was and is a success. Like other environmental initiatives, like banning leaded fuel has been great improvements for public health.

Yes, carb has done good. A lot of smog techs are lazy and do want to do the leg work that's required, so they just fail you or tell you they can't do it.

I've lived here most of my life. I've been on Gaia maps the past two days attempting to plan something in NM for next weekend. The no public land thing is a huge PITA. Road warriors we are.

 

San Antonio is a few yrs away from that emissions crap so I'm either planning on get the emissions guy a nice lobster/crab dinner with me cause I'm having some too or register my vehicles to another county where I have property.
