I don’t follow nascar, born in Daytona and never been to a 500. But I could hear practicing going on at Daytona a few minutes ago, idk what they were but I could hear em!

 

LOL, very well. I am not knocking Kyle Larson at all. Just in my opinion most anyone could win in that car this year. At least out of the premier 10 drivers or so. Really it's about 10-15 drivers who could win based on talent and the car is the rest. In my opinion. I don't think JJ was really that great of a driver. I never saw him do anything in a car that I was like okay, that took some skill. I mean you have to give it to him. He did the most with what he was handed but put him in any other circumstance and I doubt we would know his name.

 

to your point, look at the 54 in Xfinity. Put anyone in that car not named Ty Dillion and they win. The 54 has 10 wins this season.

Like I said, KL is for sure on the elite side of being a driver and is deserving of where he is without a doubt. But you put Matty D in that car and he has at least 3-5 wins too. I watched an interview with CK a while back and he said he has brought up these new crew chiefs to not really care what the feedback from the driver is. They are to set the car up to make it the fastest it can be and then the expectation is for the driver to figure out how to get the most out of it. Gone are the days of Dale Sr. telling the crew chief what to do. The crew chiefs are where the actual competition is these days.

 

There is such a fine line between champion, elite and even blue collar driver that equipment, good sponsors and a keen crew chief can promote the blue collar to champion if the drivers would just drive. We all know that today's cup ain't the racing we grew up with.

It should be noted that it's much harder to pass these days and the racing is a lot more fine tuned thanks to the package. I think that plays into Larson's hand a lot.
