Closer to 5 - 8 or or so. It's noticeably closer to whatever the outside temp is than it was before

I don't think they're something someone should install for the sake of water crossings - the stock intake is already in a good spot for crossing water that reaches the height of the grill. And at that point...snorkel or no snorkel... you're going to have more issues to worry about with water submerging the engine bay.

I'd recommend them more for dusty environments and cooler air intake than anything else. And mall points of course

Noah could've used one on that magic ship

hell think of all the trouble Moses could've saved himself in parting the red sea if he'd just had a snorkel

I changed the air freshener to a new one, one time.
I have one because I run out here in Vegas and the dirt is insane.. every time we’d go out I was changing air filters and now I don’t have to do it as often. Plus, as my buddy’s air intake temp is scorching, mine runs the same as outside ambient temp.

I agree that if you’re in the dirt a lot it’s definitely nice to have. People will nitpick it all day but give me 10 min to run over their build and point out some dumb shit they’ve done to their truck that’s not necessary. Always a lose lose here on beautiful tw

I'm low key a fan of snorkels and have been since I was a kid and interested in off road vehicles. I just don't have a need for one and don't feel like adding one for that one time I may need one. My vehicles are all under built and it would just look out of place.

    Don't do any water crossings.

The snorkel isn't even half of the tasks necessary for proper waterproofing. Most importantly is protecting ALL of the electronics (including ALL connections) sitting low in the truck. The there are the axles and the...

I’d take wet electronics - over a hydro locked engine. If you regularly hit deeper water it will come in handy.

Here's a little secret. Snorkels aren't for water proofing. Simply installing one doesn't "waterproof" your truck. Plus, done right, you can ford near hood-deep water with the stock intake.

Snorkels are really for dust, and really, are far more of a "cold air intake" that those dumb K&N "cold air" intakes (which I have one, lol).

As others said, if you want one, sure, get one, but in all likelihood no, you don't "need" one.

My vote is still not out on this but all of your informative comments are appreciated. Looks like the best mfg is by an Australian company going by the letters ARB. Theirs are designed by a computer scan an appears well made to fit your vehicle by a specific part number. Some videos refer to the fact that the air intake sits higher so the air is cooler and not as dirty. Not to mention the expense I can see an install being a problem as a holes must be drilled for the fitting, and the concerns of rusting go along with a hole in the wrong place.
Oh, as for water damage this company mentioned that water gets into several places such as your differential besides what was noted in your replies. So as far as preventing high water damage you are correct there is more then just the concern of sucking of water into the engine. Thanks, Woodcutter

I would definitely go with the arb one. I’ve seen the other snorkels and they don’t match the body lines and you fill in the gaps. The arb is also way more expensive… but I paid the price to have the right fit. Also, any holes you drill you’ll cover any bare steel with primer.

word of advice, take your time with the stencil, I rushed and mine is off a tad but you can’t really tell.. but I can.
