I recently noticed that I have a leak coming from what looks to me the output shaft on my transfer case.

After trying to search for a write up I found a second gen post that references this post on a 4runner forum. The post I found the write up on doesn't reference it at all and since it's a pretty good write up my question is, is the 3rd gen 4runner transfer cases the same as the second gen tacomas? If not does anyone have a link to a write up for the second gens? As the title states I have an '06 6spd manual transmission.

I think you have to remove the driveshaft , remove the large nut holding the driveshaft flange on , then remove the driveshaft flange .
Once the driveshaft flange is removed , you can pull the seal out and replace it .
I would be interested to see how deep the grooves are where the seal rides on the driveshaft flange .
Some guys install a speedy sleeve for about $ 30 bucks and this saves them from purchasing a new driveshaft flange .

My tcase leaks from the same seal. I bought a new seal, but have been too lazy to replace it. I just top the oil off every 3-4 months. Gear oil is so thick that it takes a reeeallly long time for it to get low enough for it to be a problem.

If you'd like the part number of the front seal I can get it for you when I get home from work this afternoon.

@reg0928 Yeah if I could get that part number from you when you get a chance I would greatly appreciate it! Good to know that I don't need to rush to get this done.

Will do. The seal is sitting in my pile of parts at the house, I'll check it when I get home today

Any chance you've had a moment to track down that part number?
