Hey Y'all, first-time Taco owner (2021 ACLB OR).

I began noticing that the lower forward edges of both Drivers and Pax side doors slightly rub against the fender and paint loss is occurring. I find it kinda strange that the gap clearance is so little between the two parts at this location. Furthermore, it's strange that at the top, the clearance between the door and fender is just over a centimeter in width while the bottom of the door is only a millimeter or two in width.

The attached photos only represent the passenger side but the driver's side is almost identical in every way.

    Is this normal?

No. The gap should be roughly the same all around the door. That is a warranty issue assuming the vehicle has not be involved in a collision. Going to need the doors and fender painted to make it like new. It should have never left the QC inspection like that.

Do you have someone who likes to lean against your truck that might have pushed those fenders closer to the doors? Today’s cars are so lightweight it takes very little to push stuff out of alignment. Even a basketball tossed against your fender could cause that.

I bought this second-hand. Really worried it may have been in a previous collision now. Thanks =/

Unfortunately it has been in an accident, but if it was paid cash it never would have been reported. No other way why that is doing that.

Agreed. There's less than zero % chance a basketball (lol) could do this. Isn't insurance fraud just swell when it happens to you?

In one of your pictures the paint looks off, bubbly, like it has been repainted. Some of my paint looks like that but my truck is 20 years old.

Thanks for the input all, I'll be taking it to a body shop within a week to see if there is any structure/frame damage I need to be worried about and get it repaired.

Google Door Jam welds etc as each vehicle company has specifics when cars are fixed. If the doors were off or damage underneath a reputable car places will follow spec. I know it's kind of confusing but the vehicle wasn't put back together properly.

Cant tell if its just the picture, but it looks like there is a tape line on both panels. You can see the hard lines near the red lines I drew on these pictures.

To the left of the red line. Also looking at the rock guard on the bottom, I dont think its supposed to have that much of a fade.

Just looked at the truck and there is no tape residue, I think it's just the pictures.

There appears to be ever-so the appearance of a paint-rise right on the edge and rounded in cross-section. I think this is just a reflection of the light from the camera flash.

Darn, that could be a bummer. It might be worth running the vehicle history to see if there were any reported accidents or insurance claims involving it, so you know the history. It's also possible there was some body work done outside of major damage and the panels were just poorly hung. If that is the case, they could probably be adjusted correctly. If that is the case, some touchup paint on the scuffed/scratched areas after panel adjustment would probably make it look pretty good since it's on/in the seam.

You bought it second hand from who? Was it a Certified Pre-Owned from a Toyota dealer?

Welcome to the forum by the way :hattip:.

3rd pic body lines up oddly to the door top to bottom. I'm no body man but stressed metal if not fixed properly from a t-bone could do that.

I'm pretty sure what you're referring to is the anti rock chip paint on the rocker panel. Basically, it's bed liner with a gloss paint over it. Normal on 3rd gens.
