Nope! Just changed my oil, and I guess it's a good thing I'm running full synthetic that's guaranteed for 10,000 miles!

Yeah I hear ya… I’m just 54 and old ideas die hard ya know? Like my boat is a 454 and I still run 20/50 in that!! You wanna talk about something hard to find? Try looking for 20/50. HA HA HA but I hear what you’re saying with modern engines unlike my very first car being a 72 pinto!!! Lol. Have a great weekend my friend!! Cheers!!

I worked at a parts counter back in high school, way back in the late 80’s. Fellas would come in for 20W50 all the time. Some old fellas would come in for straight 30W, but you knew someone was keeping a real loose engine going when they asked after the straight 50W. Not sure they ever made thicker engine oil than straight 50. That stuff was like syrup.

Some race engines run 70wt race oil

Do you have to prewarm it when it’s that thick? Like, will the engine turn over without scoring the cylinders?

Depends on bearing clearances and how the engine was built and engine builder preferences

Just picked up a 5qt (have some extra single qts) @ $27 for my CTSV change for pre winter storage oil change. Though I might just wait till spring...though the current oils been in there for about 1.5 years but only 900ish miles.

    iirc

    0w10
    0W8

the viscosity chart is a mess.
That 0 is cold weight, which isn’t cold it’s 40 centigrade (which is 100 degrees F) and at that temp 0 is still about four times thicker then 20 is at working temp.

let’s not get into the fact that hot a 15w40 is the same thickness as 80-90 gear oil.

they just need to show the viscosity cold and hot

Just run 80-90 gear oil, although it’s actually thinner then 20/50 so maybe not

All this oil shortage talk got me thinking. Since all 3 vehicles in my household run the same weight, I decided to be pro-active and pick up a couple cases.

I was thinking about trying that, but my Costco was out. Supposedly it's made by the same company that makes Amazon's oil. (Warren Distribution)

Actually I keep the boat in Arizona and there’s a Napa there that Carry’s 20/50 so I lucked out in that one because in Vegas it’s really tuff to find.

I’m waiting until the clearances are so close that they require 0w/0. Lol

Good idea. I’ve got enough for 2 oil changes on both vehicles so hopefully by then this Covid BS will chill out? Maybe

I’m just glad that I hoarded ammo way back when Obama got elected. Now I can get toilet paper and motor oil from my neighbors!:D But seriously, we are seeing more and more things disappear from stores where I live and the prices are going crazy as well. It’s getting harder to decide what it hoard.:annoyed:
