Anyone getting a new 2021/2022 check your U-bolt nuts. Installed a rear block today and 3 of the nuts were finger loose.

Was making sure I had the right socket and the nut just spun. Checked the rest and found 2 more that spun without a wrench. Even the other 5 came off like butter. I chalked it up to being new but after checking after install there's just no way.

If you loosen one, it makes the others loosen off accordingly.

There's no way 3 were finger tight on initial check.

I bought the truck on Wednesday installed the lift today. 3 of the u-bolt nuts spun with only the ratchet w/ extension and finger torque. One on the driver two on the passenger.

I didn't check them at that milage, but was experiencing weird sound and clunks when start off from a light/stop sign or stopping at one.

They just come loose. I've encountered more than one customer with U-bolts that were finger loose. Those were with previously installed aftermarket leafs though, not a new truck.

I always urge people retorque U-bolts after 100 miles. It's the most likely thing to come loose after suspension install.

I'd have never have checked them if I didn't have plans for the lift.

This is brand new. Good on you for recommending it. My first lift I lost a LCA bolt likely due to never retorquing and lack of thread lock. Planning to check every hundred miles until 1000 or so. Would checking with a lower torque be the proper method or use the same torque?

Same torque. By the way, the repair manual calls for 37 ft lb for Ubolts on these trucks. It's a joke. Need more like 80ft lb with stock Ubolts. With aftermarket I normally torque to 85 ft lb. Depends on the thickness of the bolt.

My 07, I never had to check anything except oil change, air filters and other fluid changes. The 3rd gen has definitely become more automated on assembly and the calibration of those systems are off on several hundred trucks, until they catch it and recalibration is done.

I went with 85 ft lb based on a recommendation from someone super helpful in another post. 37 sounds crazy maybe it's to let the leafs breathe but I don't know I'd rather buy new leafs than go that low.

Here ya go below. I've seen 52 mentioned as well. Also the one you provided has the wrong rear shock torque spec. Should be 74 ft lb.

I have a 21 with 11k on it, just re-torqued for the 2nd time to 80 ft lbs. All took about a 1/2 turn. First time was at about 5k. Stock suspension.

Wasnt questioning the mention of 37, I’ve seen it during research too (and the thought it was a flop from 73). But honestly I thought that was a 2nd gen misprint. Where was the source on your printout? It states Prerunner and I thought that term was nixed after 15 no? I pulled from the 16 manual provided by toner (I wish someone had a newer model yr version floating around).

interesting on the shock spec though cause I’m pretty sure when I did my aal I used specs from this 16 manual

Seems to me there’s zero excuse or acceptable reason why Toyota can’t adequately torque down ubolts. It’s just accepted as “the way they are built?”

Not acceptable to me at all. I understand all too well that nothing is built like it used to be, across the board. But damn…these 3rd gens sure want to keep their owners busy with stuff that should’ve been done right the first time by Toyota. It really is that simple. Body mounts that look mangled after a few months, under filled factory fluids, I mean what the hell?? Rushing to meet production does not do anyone any favors.

U bolts stretch, its in their nature.

TW is full of enthusiasts but I can assure you these instances are rare. I've seen one body mount loose since 2016.

Go visit a GM or Ford truck page and you'll be grateful you own a Toyota.
