Current Tacoma lineup is fine and seems to keep the product alive and well. But I sure do miss the regular cab with 4 cylinders and 5 speed manual. No BS. Mine lasted me 12 years before buying an access cab model in ‘16. Like’n that too. My son had a 92 reg cab that went nearly 300k. Damn good old days.

If the next gen Tacoma looks anything like the new Tundra they may as well leave it disguised at release. As a matter of fact every Tacoma should come with that cover thingy or atleast make it optional:rofl:

Some are disputing whether this is the Tacoma but it looks the same as spy shots taken earlier this fall, so it seems to be the real thing.

Seems like the latest truck fashion trend is humongous front grills. Sat in the 2022 Frontier and front viewing angle was bad. I guess the next thing will be utilizing the forward cameras for navigating mall parking lots. On a positive note, looks like the 4cyl. turbo rumour is gaining momentum. More midrange torque and better fuel economy would a welcome plus for 2023s.

There WILL be a turbo 4.

The fronts are setting up for pedestrian impact safety regulations

The current Hilux would probably be a better offroader than this 4th gen Tacoma. The Hilux will also be updated and built on the TNGA-F platform. This platform may cause more disruption in the world of Hilux, where off roadability is of greater importance.

Doesn't feel very late. GMC's the absolute worst. The Silverado styling is a little better. The Ram better still, with the F150 being the most restrained to me.

All grilles are getting bigger, including cars. Toyota is leading this horrendous charge.

The name Hilux, and the present offering, have nothing in common. The new Hilux is no off-road beast, any more so than a Tacoma. Arguably the Tacoma is a bit better with better approach angles.

When they launch this thing, I’m gonna lurk the 4G forum so hard. “Shoulda bought a 3G” “real trucks have minivan-duty motors, not turbo crap” and so on. Take a page from the 2G guys.

It would be awesome if Toyota included 3 or more aux switches in the new Tacoma.

It'll be more difficult to pull off, since there will most likely be significantly more than a 1lb/ft difference.. oh oh and don't forget that 500 rpm!!
Regardless, if you want to at least match the 2G douchebaggery, strap in brother... you're in it for the whole 4G production run.

Yes the Tacoma offers better approach angles, and neither truck is an offroad beast. People do put the Hilux through it's paces, in other parts of the world. Probably with thelp of the aftermarket, and some of those places you can also opt far a LC70.

Looking at the 4th gen test muel, which isn't anything to look at. With it's camouflage and off size wheels. I immediately thought, the current Hilux looks much better, and would probably be better offroad. Given the choice I'd prefer the Hilux. The only problem with that, the current Hilux won't be an option in those markets.

I think, depending on what the new TGNA-F Hilux offers. Could put the competition above Toyota.

You can definitely see where they borrowed some artistic innovation from the Tacoma in the grille and head lights.

I also agree that the Hilux is not an OR beast, it’s designed to be the practical “Swiss Army knife” Ute for use around the world in any condition. As you pointed out, the LC70 occupies the role of “off-road beast” in Toyota’s fleet.

I have to admit, this probably the best looking Hilux I’ve seen and I spent a good amount of time in a few when I was overseas. I’d probably buy a truck looking like this over the current North American offerings.
