Nice looking stuff my friend. I dabble in designs and 3d printing myself, but just for personal uses. What do you usually print your interior pieces in, PETG?

I have a few pieces I want to make, but curious about dealing with the sun and heat in the cab and exterior.

yes! i prototype in PLA because it's cheaper and quicker to print, but once i get fitment right and i'm ready for something that i can market and sell i switch over to PET-G. i used to make some stuff out of ABS when i worked out of a fab-shop but because I now print from home i don't have the ventilative requirements for printing with ABS (fumes are really bad). so PET-G for sure. holds up to the scorching temperatures that interiors of vehicles get to very well.

Nice, thanks for the reply. Sounds like I should be good to go for PETG. Now to see if I can find a tan that matches my interior.

Great work on the fitment of your prints. I'm not sure folks understand how many test iterations folks usually go through with those. They all look great.

I appreciate that a lot! Kudos to my girlfriend's iPad with its LIDAR scanner... that definitely helps with the first pass :)

Let me know if you need any help with getting set up. This is a lot of fun for me.

    Thanks for support!

    I appreciate that :)

I think this whole COVID thing really made all of us act out in wild ways... for me I guess it was 3D printing interior parts??

Also cool that you're in ID. I studied architecture, all my closest friends were industrial designers!

@badboypro Any chance you could do a 01-04 era "TOYOTA" and "TACOMA" "SR5" "V6" tailgate emblems? Does spray paint adhere to the PET-G?

I'm rebuilding my swing out tailgate, and would really love to include the original look of those emblems in the design.

Hey! I'm always happy to take custom requests, thank for asking.

That said that one is tricky as the TOYOTA and TACOMA badges are a tad bigger than my max print capacities.

I did find some cool vinyl stickers as an option on eBay... probably not what you're looking for but hope it helps.

RE_painting PET-G.... definitely doable, but in my experience it turns out much better after you sand and prep. I'm assuming you want a glossy/clean finish, so it would take some post processing if you ended up going down the 3D printed route. Definitely recommend PET-G or ABS though, otherwise it will melt in less than 1hr.

Thanks for the response- Sounds like you need to invest in a larger printer :) I'm sure it comes down to a time-is-money kinda deal, but I'm pretty sure the emblems are not one piece. Would it be possible to nest them on two lines?

    TOY
    OTA

Yeah, I was assuming that even on a high resolution the surface would need to be filled/sanded/primed to get a nice finish.

    One day I'll get a 3D printer...

It's more of a side hobby at the moment, but I have been admittedly eyeing up some cool printers!

I can look into doing the project in the split method that you described. It would essentially be a TOY, OTA, TAC, OMA, SR5, and V6. Unfortunately my truck is an earlier first gen so I don't have anything to scale up against, but if you're wanting to go down this route feel free to PM me and send me some measurements of how large you want these things to be and we can take it from there.
