Wisconsin Tacomas and bad financial advice

REAL interested in the 3rd gen wheels but not the tires, if someone wants the tires I'd like to get the wheels.

Now I'm intrigued. I haven't used FF or WW for the reasons you mentioned. I'll have to look into this.

 

Anyone need some +2" rear brake lines? Bought these for my old truck from Wheelers Off-road and never used them, bag is still sealed. If interested make an offer.

Alright, being a Wisconsin-specific thread, I am looking no further than here for this information. I have researched rust prevention methods and everyone seems to have different product preferences and reasons why they use that specific product. People say some of the rust prevention products work well on metal components but will deteriorate rubber and need to be very carefully applied. I honestly said Fug it, not even going to mess around until I now see @Larry Dangerfield speaking of fluid film.

I've never done rust prevention on any of my vehicles but owning a new Tacoma seems like the perfect time to start. If I get some of this fluid film, how straightforward is the application process? What should I be careful of if anything? Can I apply it in the 40-50 degree weather we are having or should I find a heated shop?

Like I said I am well aware of all the talk on this subject but it is such a shit show of opinions and "do this, don't do that. No actually you can do this." that I need to hear it directly from some fellow Wisconsinites. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

 

I've used fluid film or woolwax since new with good results. Any rust prevention is better than none.
I apply in the late fall in temperatures lower than 40 degrees. The trick is keeping the media warm. I use the oven set on warm to keep my bottles warm.

Just fluid filmed both my Taco and Frontier this past week. And I work DoT here, so I'm required to drive through copious amounts of salt.

Spots to look for on the taco, front frame rails up under the engine, esp on the passenger side where the AC compressor drips onto the frame.

Also hit your leaves to prevent some squeaking

Did my Tacoma and my wife’s 4Runner .



We had a 5 gallon bucket with hot water and placed the fluid film can inside. It sat in the water till poured in the spray bottle. Worked great!

As for product I think it's more about using something rather than what you use.

I used Blaster corrosion stop for the most part. https://www.farmandfleet.com/products/546614-blaster-aerosol-corrosion-stop.html. It's cheap and definitely doesn't wash off. Even with a pressure washer.
I've heard no complaints from people who have used fluid film either.
Using a spray cans was a bit of a pain as the spray wasn't as nice when the can got low. Applying with a spray gun hooked to a compressor like @BookieBob did is the way to go for sure.
