5VZ-FE - cam pulley Torque (217lbs!?) Bent my Cam holder tool! What to use?

In looking up the torque specs in the FSM I see 217lbs for the cam pulley bolt! WOW! I knew it was going to be a chore when the time came. I ended up bending my steel cam holding tool so am wondering what you guys use to do this or if there's any hack in a pinch. I tried to fashion a holder using a 2X4 leaning on the frame but it snapped because the holes are too close together.
I see the subaru guys have some fancy pants method using the timing belt wrapped around various pulleys on youtube. Any help is appreciated.

My next plan is to go buy some 4" flat steel and make another, more robust, holder.

I'm also tempted to just zap it back on with the 1/2" pneumatic impact while holding the sprocket with the old belt and call it good. But would rather not unless I have to.

 

If engine is on a stand. I used a metal pulley tool and used bolts on the output side of the crank to hold it and brace it against the stand back plate. If you have a manual and it’s in the truck, put in a high gear.

 

I made one. Drilled 2 holes and cut out the center section to fit the socket. I've used it a few times, it bent the last time, got the job done.

Where did you come up with 217 Foot Pounds I get 184 Foot pounds for the Crank pulley

I agree with 81 Foot pounds for Cam Pulley bolts

Hopefully OP hasn't snapped his cam pulley bolt inside the cam by now.

 

See the Homemade Crank Pulley Tool thread. Several people posted pictures of the tools they made. Here's a link to my contribution using a steel bar from the local hardware store. It can also be used to hold the camshaft sprocket, which as others pointed out doesn't require as much torque as the camshaft bolts.

OP on the camshaft bolt.

 

FSM lists 217# for both cam and crank bolts.

 

Please Take a picture and show it .

Then misprints have happened and only Toyota Dealers get a TSB and no one having a hard copy at home ever knows .

Now can someone post where it says 81#? I found it VERY hard to accept 217# but couldn't find confirmation anywhere else in the FSM. I'm aware that there are misprints and wanted to see the pictorial version which has the torque's values as well to see if they jived but couldn't find that particular page. The timing belt section doesn't show the cam pulley torque.

I'd love to see actual confirmation of the 81# - I feel relieved and pissed at the same time.

I ❤ honda crankshaft bolts. So far I'm 3 bolts loosened. 3 breaker bars and 2 sockets

 

Is that for the 5VZ 6 cylinder (2002)? And what section in the manual is that from? Was looking for that for a long time this morning...

 

That's the Toyota FSM. I think they upped the crank bolt to 217# because of an updated change in the washer size - from what I've read.
