Looking for recommendations on winter tires for a 3rd gen 2021 Tacoma off road. The stock tires (265/70R16) the truck came with was slipping on ice even in 4 Low.

I can't decide on a year round tire or just winter tires (without studs) that I will swap out. I live in the Denver area and travel over a lot of passes to get up to the mountain and I70.

Let me know your thoughts on this.

If you are just using them on road then I know that the blizzak winter tire is a popular one. If you are getting into deep snow then I would look into an AT

Where you live and how much 'winter' there is there is something you should mention.

I'd look to the Michelin versions of Winter Only tire. Although, I think a Michelin all season will be fine in Denver. Maybe a set of chains for the occasional trip into passes.

Good on you for wanting to run four dedicated winter tires! I have had great results over 20 years with Toyo Observe winter tires in the high elevation Colorado Rockies.
You will be safer with four dedicated winter tires on any vehicle in Colorado, especially I70.

I've been doing a good amount of research on going to a second set of wheels with dedicated winter tires recently. Even the dedicated snow tires will slip on ice. Studs or chains would be a better bet for ice. I'm thinking of going to the studded Nokian Hakkapeliitta. Blizzaks are pretty good too.

Year round tires are usually only good the first 25% of tread due to the silicia base.

You can do what I did, buy a year round all terrain, and once they degrade, buy a second winter set.

Now I run 265/75R16 E summer, and 245/75R16 SL winter.

I ran 275/70/17(E) KO2s for two years in Denver. While you should always exercise caution in adverse weather, I felt very confident with these tires.

I run Nokian Hakka LT3’s. They are amazing. Quiet on the road. Grip like glue in the snow / ice. A step up from blizzaks (which are also great).

Blizzak DMV2 replaced my old Blizzak DMV1 after 9 seasons. Look forward for another ten winters of never worrying about road conditions..

I run Toyo winters up here. We get lots of ice. Run the GSI-5 the past few winters, my new GSI-6 should be here Friday

I ran gsi5s on my wife's car for the last 4 years and weren't thrilled with the decay in performance over time. The GSI6 is hopefully a large improvement.

We are replacing them with blizzak DM-V2 once it snows.
