I bought new tires and had them put standard valves in the wheels but my dash keeps telling me that I have low pressure in my tires. How do I turn off this tire light indicator? I own a 2018 Toyota Tacoma Basic Model

Park close to your old wheels that have the tire sensors in them or build a pipe bomb
Where I live , you can no longer purchase aftermarket wheels without tire pressure sensors . Tire shops get fined if they sell you fresh rims but no sensors . Liability comes into play should you drop tire pressure and hit the ditch or oncoming traffic .

The only way to turn off the light is to put the TPMS sensors back in the wheels.
Why did you took them out in the first place?

TPS lights every fall this time when I change over to winter rims. Changes tires 4 or 5 days ago and light never came on until yesterday. I was getting worried about it! Some people put a small piece of black electrical tap over it. Could be worse, you had a Chev/Ford/Ram and it wouldn't be normal unless a check engine light or something was on after several years of ownership.

If it ain't broke don't try to fix it. Take the sensors back to the tire shop and have them installed. When you buy tires the next time order new sensors before you buy the tires.

New TPMS sensors cost about $20 each and last 8-10 years. Any tire store will install them free at the time you purchase new tires That works out to less than the cost of one McDonalds value meal once a year. Any time I need new tires, and I know the sensors will be 8+ years old by the time the new tires are worn out I order new sensors and take them to the tire store and have them installed even though the old ones are still working.

If I wait until the sensors batteries die the tire store will charge $10-$20 per tire to break down the tires and install the new sensors. It just makes sense to be proactive.

You can't. Black tape is about the best solution.

You said you had a SR basic so it had steel wheels, the sensor probably wouldn't fit in the the new wheels. You could buy new sensors or ignore the light it's a big brother thing anyway for saving money on gas. I normally just ignore it for the season. enjoy the truck and tires you will figure it out what works for you, either you will spend more money or not.

Well.....not exactly "big brother" and not for "saving money on gas"

If you go back in car history. Ford had serious troubles with a model frequently involved in fatal roll overs. The problem was tracked down to under inflated tires. The Fed Govt stepped in to mandate TPMS in the FMVSS.

IIRC, it was the Ford Explorer on Bridgestone rubber...... I'm sure corrections will be forth coming if I've got the model and tire wrong.

Ford Explorer and Firestone tires... Bridgestone is the parent company of Firestone, so very close. By the way, Ford reduced the recommended pressure from Firestone to improve ride quality of the Explorer. When owners did not carefully maintain the recommended operating pressure, the tires would overheat and blow due to underinflation. There was not much operating margin like there would have been if the tires were at Firestone's recommended pressures. Anyhow, you are correct that TPMS was an outcome of that fiasco.
