ive taken a couple nonstick frypans with me, but i never seem to stick with them. allways prefer the cast iron skillet or the round griddle but maybe im not that big breakfast cook either. i do like a holed toast with an egg tho...on the griddle.
On this drive i upspent and simplified with a few dehydrated meal paks....game changer, and the liquid fuel stoves were great compared to a cook partner and big propane tank. just off 395 thursday a week ago

There’s no doubt breakfast tastes better on cast iron. But the non-stick is just more convenient.

I am having a great time in DV today... but appear to have lost a caliper bolt! Anyone in the bishop area have a spare they could sell me? None of the parts shops seem to have any. Will be swinging thru tomorrow.

I think that the missing bolt in your picture is a shoulder bolt, as opposed to a caliper bolt. At any rate I can source a bolt when I figure out what it is.

    PM incoming.

I think this is also a stretch to torque bolt meaning one time use.

Welp, I will buy a shoulder bolt at the hardware to get him home. Toyota closed at noon today. Unlikely they would stock it anyways.

Dealers up here do stock. But there are occasions stuff you'd think should be in stock isn't.

I’ll be the contrarian here and say that after using mostly cast iron for the last few years, that I think it cleans up easily in the camping environment. Scrape stuck on food with a metal spatula then use a stiff brush. Quick water wash/rinse. Since I don’t use soap on it, it doesn’t need a lot of rinsing which saves water.

After using cast for 6 years when I was on my never ending climbing trip I agree. The best way I found to clean it was to put about 1/4" of water in the pan. Heat it until boiling. Scrape it with a metal spatula while the water is still boiling. Dump it out. Wipe it out. Smear some fresh olive oil on it. Done.

Or put the water in while it’s still hot to save fuel. Also, I read something years ago in a backcountry medical book which stuck with me. Soap works by putting dirt, food particle, etc in suspension. Unless you rinse really well, which requires lots of hot water, those particles can remain and grow bacteria and cause illness that you don’t want on the trail. Mechanical removal, scraping or scouring with soul, gravel, or sand, is actually more effective and only requires a quick rinse saving water and fuel. That’s my rationale for quick dishwashing.

That's why the Olive Oil coating goes on. Olive Oil is anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, and anti-viral. Plus it helps stuff not stick to the pan. lol

    Good looking out man.

@mk5 and anyone else visiting the East Side. If you ever need replacement bolts High Country in Bishop is the place to get them. They will have anything that you need.
