Well people are buying them for their lifestyle uses. But they buy them for numerous reasons.

They have charging along the Trans American Trail system and installing them in more places everyday.

Very compelling.I can drive to Bozeman in about 8 hours. How long would that take in an EV and what route restrictions do I need to consider due to lack of charging stations. Sounds like a lack of adventure to me.

Hey let’s take this random road we don’t know, oh wait let’s check where a charging station is first because the gas station 10 miles away won’t work.

If anyone wants to question its off-road capabilities, just watch Long Way Up on Apple+. They take them from the tip of Argentina to Los Angeles in 100 days following Ewan Mcgregor on his EV moto ride. The things are great. I’ve been eyeing them for a few years now.

I get that but they aren’t doing anything a non-EV isn’t. That’s kind of the point. It just takes longer because of charging.

True. It was just really cool to see the prototypes in real world situations driving the dirt roads of Bolivia and Patagonia. The team went ahead of them and set up charging stations.

Current tech just doesn't allow fast charging as quick as a petrol fill up. Charge times will come down as the tech improves.

Well you say no one wants to wait hours to charge and it's only good around town or to the park. That statement you made is not true at all. People do wait to charge their EV's and the Rivian is made to take off road as first hand accounts and reviews show.

It's not like EVs have been around for years and have had to deal with rain and other water or anything like that.

Ya I meant that it’s severely hampered by range and charging. I would not be able to take a Rivian on the two week park trip we took a couple years ago through Utah and Arizona.

But everyone describes adventure differently. It’s just for me and many like me, EV can’t keep up at all.

Maybe in 50 years when tech catches up but I’ll be old and likely not doing any adventures, lol.

My wife and I almost bought the Rivian SUV and may at some point but we are waiting until they are more available.

Lots of range anxiety in this thread. Over the coming years it will be a thing of the past. Personally, I'd rather wait 20 minutes for 80% charge at the cost of <$10 than a $70 fill. Improvements in battery tech and more states increasing the percentage of total power coming from renewables and the future is looking pretty good.

I won't be getting one at the current price though, I'm too stingy for that.

Well you can take it on a two week trip, depending if there are charging stations during the trip. Many people take their EVs cross country. Do you need to stop more to charge, hell yeh. Just part of the current negatives of current EV tech. Solid state batteries with sub 20 min charge times are announced and will be here in a few years.

The Toyota BEV shipping next summer will have 30 min 0 to 80% charge times.

You can order it with up to 400mi range. That more range than most gas only trucks.

so from research most electric vehicles that tow looses 1/3 to 1/2 of their mileage depending on weight its towing. If you have the 400mile rivian you would only get 200 to 270 miles if towing. Can you charge it efficiently with solar while boondocking for a week? I can see buying this for adventure/camping/boondocking if I could charge it enough from solar to get 200 miles driving after using it to power camp fridge, lights, etc. I may consider it. Nothing like hey time to leave and then you sit there for another 2 days trying to get enough juice to drive out safely.

The caveat to that range is ambient temps and accessory usage. Waiting for real world reporting on this. But should be longer range than a current Tacoma or Tundra.
