Surprisingly a lot better than before. I felt the stock Off-road bilsteins we’re to mushy. These are noticeably better on the road and just hitting some potholes and speed bumps quickly they feel like they have much better respsonse.

everyone always claims these are just rebranded 5100s, but they are definitely valved differently and respond different than 5100s do

used the same stock spring? did you have to use a spring compressor?

Yes and yes. You have to make sure to use very heavy duty springs compressors. The stock 700lbs springs are strong as hell and they broke the first compressor we were using.

once we finally got the spring out of the broken compressor I ran it over to a shop and paid them to swap the spring into the new strut and do the second one. Other than the compressor issue, the install was simple

You are amazing! Ok, I know I can get a better deal aftermarket, but I want to keep this truck for 20+ years with no drama, so it's either gotta be stock, or this, and this seems like the best option.

    Thanks everyone for their input.

Ohh one last question! Should I get them to install this ECGS bearing that everyone keeps talking about? Or just wait?

So I know several guys on this forum that were told by the dealer that they cannot install the bushing because it’ll void the warranty. Even after pushback regarding the needle bearing needing to be replaced, the dealer told them they’d replace it if it was under warranty.

so at the end of the day, you don’t install the bushing and then are dealing with a damaged needle bearing should that happen. Oh, and don’t forget the lift kit only has a 1 year warranty. OR, install the bearing and void the warranty you’re trying to keep by doing this kit.

Toyota kind of dropped the ball when planning this whole thing

    Dealer could not answer:
Will the dealer TRD kit provide adequate front suspension when weight of ARD bumper and winch added??? I live in British Columbia so rig travels on deactivated mountain logging roads and is being lifted for function. Looks are NOT a factor for me. The other option I'm considering is a 3" ToyTech lift detailed in my on OP post. Costs twice as much but does let me use a taller tire and does account for the extra weight up front.

I want to make the move in next few weeks.

I read all 96 pages of this thread and could not find the answer.

    Thanks!

The factory springs are used with the TRD lift so you are not picking up any additional load carrying capability through this kit or any other that does not change out the actual springs for heavier duty ones.

I would get a heavier duty spring setup if was you since you plan to run an aftermarket bumper and winch… You could run this kit, but it likely won’t give you a full 2” due to the added weight.

Does anyone know the reason why the OEM kit is a no-fit for 4x2s and long beds? I realize it has 4x4 specific parts included but couldn't you just not use them? I strike out on both the non 4x4 and long bed counts lol

I can’t speak for the reason it’s not listed for 2wd, but I have a long bed and it works just fine. Many others have also installed on 4wd long beds with no issue.

I assume you installed the kit yourself? If it goes against the instructions on the kit I doubt my dealer would do it.

I’ve read that springs that will lift a 4x4 one inch, will lift a 4x2 two inches. So if you install these on a 4x2 you’d get three inches of lift out front. Assuming they didn’t change the spacing for the clips vs the 5100’s, you could use the lowest notch which should get a 4x2 2.1 inches of front lift. Again, I can’t confirm any of this, I’m just guessing here…

Ok, and taking this one step further, since the kit includes a new TSS sensor calibrated for the new height, it probably throws that off on a 4x2.

Well not necessarily. Many people have reported zero issues with their TSS systems after a small lift. Even if you went the full 3 inches(not recommended without many other modifications) the dealer should be able to recalibrate the new sensor no problem.

Can you confirm this? Everything I've found dealers won't recalibrate an after market lift.

I was thinking of getting the trd oem lift but i opted out and got Bilstein 6112/5160 with headstrong rear AAL with 1/2" shim for 2" lift. I don't have any issues with my TSS20211030_154301.jpg
