Well done, your time is appreciated... instead of subed so I don't have to search forever to find it again.

 

I've been using the YZZD3 filter in my 1998 V-6 Camry for 15 years. Bought the car with 88K and have 349K on it now. I have always used conventional oil. Used to use Castrol and switched to Havoline 10 years ago due to price. Car has some squeeks in the chassis but two timing belts, two sets of struts, one set of valve cover gaskets later and the car still runs like it did at 88K(like new). BTW, the YZZD3 isn't the OEM filter(it's a little larger) but someone recommended it years ago on Toyotanation and that's what I've been using.

I just learned today and the YZZD3 will also work on my 2000 Tacoma 3rz and I will be using it moving forward.

I wish I could use the d3 on my 4 banger Camry

The genuine Toyota filter on my car still drains out and sounds nasty upon startup till oil psi goes up after that sounds like new

 

Not enough room or is there another reason?

Just went to wal mart the other day, they now have toyota oil filters at in the Davie wal mart in south Fl.

 

Seen this the other day also but it’s cheaper at the dealership.

 

Hey excellent information, thank you! I wonder if you might have reference to this regard? I like the idea of the Plus 1 size filters like the Moble 1 and the Napa gold that you tested. "More filter area, more filtering", love the whole concept. That is if all standards and specifications have adhered to that is.

Just as when you build a race car, every consideration is given to each component. Strength, aerodynamics, weight, etc. With a mindset such as this, we can improve on our Taco's one mod or component at a time.

When you reviled the +1 offerings, I was somewhat surprised given that one of them was a Mobile 1 filter. This is because I had just reached out to their tech line with that very question. Do you offer a compatible larger volume filter with the same thread and head as the

$15 M1-102 / M1-102A Extended Performance Oil Filter

M1-102? The answer was no, even when I asked the question five different ways to make sure I was understood. Yet there it is!

While on this quest for higher capacity, more filtration media, and greater thermal dispersion, I also called the fine people at Aimoil with the same question. The reply was "WHY YES WE DO IF YOU HAVE ROOM FOR IT".

"I really like these guys". Even though I can't afford to use most of their products.

Now, this is an unconfirmed fit, but the part number that was given was Amsoil #EA034. I wonder, do you have resources that would allow you to confirm? I would venture to say that it is most likely identical to its little brother EA15K51 regarding media material and configuration. But if it is a correct fit, it could perhaps be considered as a contender next to the other +1 filters that you had reviewed.

Please forgive me if this filter has already been considered. I am just now seeing this review and have yet to read completely through it. Thank you for such a fine resource.

This information was offered to me by one of my local NAPA parts houses. I have used this filter on two oil changes now. And I can say that those guys are pretty solid where information goes etc.

This is the Platnum version of the 1516 Napa Gold filter that chris4x4 had featured in his review. Or another add-on to the list of taller larger filter capacity filters that he has put together.

The attraction to us as end-users is its larger capacity, offering what I am sure at least "some" better thermal dispersion due to greater exposed containment and most certainly greater filtration capability by way of more filter media, etc...

When I asked what the difference was between the two I was told that the Platnum was expectedly designed for synthetic oils. That the media it contained had the same or better flow rate with better filtration. Again not tested etc.

One thing is for sure, to be a premium filter the price was right. Correct me if I am wrong but I'm trying to think that many or all of NAPA branded filters were made by WIX. Which are quality made, after all weren't they the ones that thought of spin-on filters to start with? Anyway, I hope this adds some value to this already excellent resource.

Might have missed it in this thread, but have you compared the oem cartridge style for the 3rd gen to the OEM YZZD3?

 

I've been using the 1516 but thought I'd try the 41516 platinum version. First thing I noticed is the platinum one has little round holes vs tic tack shaped holes in the 1516. Price is very close, maybe 2 bucks more for the platinum. I'm hoping to get it done this weekend.

 

If you like it you may do as I have here and grab up the only 6 in our county still available. I have not confirmed, but I had one of our local NAPA REPS tell me that they may be discontinuing the Platinum version. Again no confirmation or theorized reason was given etc...

 

Above is wrong. Both have round holes. If anything, the gold 1516 seems better built than the 41516 platinum. Looks like the end plate is thicker, check valve spring better built. Looks like the gold is just barely taller too.
