I don't know about 2nd gen trucks, but you definitely do hear a "hissing" sound for a second or two when you first turn the key (I don't recall which position, but assume its "on"). 3rd gen V6 trucks also have two pumps, low pressure in the tank and high pressure (mechanically driven off one of the cams) on the passenger side valve cover.

RPM is not the only variable that will enable the direct injectors.. load is also a factor. In fact, your DIs will be active at hot idle during a cleaning cycle.
IIRC, there is some magic Toyota did with the D4S system during cold start, where they went for a "stratified" mixture.. I'd have to read the document again but I believe this means that BOTH port and Direct injectors are in play. They also messed with exhaust valve timing to help CAT warm up.

It’s cause he feels like an idiot trading in a brand new truck for another brand new truck cause he doesn’t know how to use a key.

TRDs are. SR, SR5, and manuals are all keyed.

Something about a key and a crank is how it should always be. I mean can’t have a scary movie with a push start.

if going from full OFF to full START in 1 motion

likely the ECU is at least a 10th behind

turn key on........pause just a moment then go to full start.........................

    few vehicles are cpmpletely/fully OFF

the ECU is monitoring various accesories................’ hibernating ‘

Good to know, I was basing my response on my experience with the second gen (no hissing). I'm surprised they changed the fuel delivery system on the 4 cylinder, but should not have made an assumption. I too am used to the pump priming on almost all my fi vehicles when the key is turned to the "on" position, and was surprised to find that is not the case with the 2nd gen 2.7. I discovered this when I thought I had a bad fuel pump.
