Thinking about either a 2022 Taco or 2022 Tundy, need advice

Just read the new Tundra comes in 3 box sizes.

 

I own a DC tundra. That DC (4door) tacoma and DC (extended cab) tundra (confusing that toyota uses the same term for different co figurations model to model) are almost the same as far as leg room. You only lose width. That said I have two kids both grown,, one high school freshman and one just graduated, they fit fine. Mine is a 2017 however. The 2022 tundra however they changed the cab space on the DC and it looks exceptionally cramped. Check out tfl trucks review on YouTube and you will see what I mean. Also my DC 6.5 bed tundra is still longer than a DCLB tacoma. crewmax tundra likely would be as well. Owning one I can tell you that my tundra is effing huge. Like huge. Like driven fullsize trucks my whole life and it's huge lol

 

We call mine the land yacht, big bitch, fat taco, Blanco grande and Bertha. Lol

 

This. My tundra is a bitch in downtown slc parking lots. Get used to 12 point turns or try to park at the end lol

 

They are a bit whale-esque. And I mean that in the most complimentary way possible.

 

I love my 2015 tundra but I have lived in the phx area for the last 5 years and it leaves a lot to be desired. It doesn’t fit in my garage (cuz they build them to fit Priuses) so it sits out in the hot sun all day. And like you mentioned parking lots are a pain in the ass. A lot of my buddies that moved down here when I did, and they all had 3/4 ton diesels and have since all sold them and bought new Tacoma’s. They are great trucks for the city and excelllent for off-roading.

I almost traded in my 2019 trd off-road Tacoma in hopes of buying a tundra. The dealers in the area were asking 7k in markups on the tundra so it washed the nice trade in value or private party sale of my truck. I’m learning to love all that my Tacoma offers. If I had to tow anything it would unfortunately have to go

I have been considering new vehicle options to take DD duties over from my 2002 Toyota 4Runner that drinks gas in quarter tank increments due to lift, armor, and 35s. It would be nice to have something new that is comfortable with new tech. The 2022 Tundra TRD Pro caught my eye as it is the latest Toyota that has gotten a makeover. That, and the iFORCE Max hybrid could give it an mpg edge that "might" make having such a HUGE truck palatable.

I know the Tundra is not really for offroading, but I have something for that already. The advantage with most of the other vehicles that I am considering, is that they could do it all in terms of light offroading, road trips, DD duties... I'm not sure how much better mileage the hybrid Tundra will get, or what premium Toyota will charge for it, but that will be interesting to see.

Other vehicle's in the running. 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro, 2022 4Runner ORP, "maybe" a GX $$$... Who knows. I am just getting tired of an driving an older vehicle every day. Hahaha.

 

I've got both...

2nd gen Tundra and a 1st gen Tacoma.

I can fit both in the garage...oh, did I say the Tacoma was a standard cab? It's a short fucker. If I try that with my 1 st gen x cab, it's no joy.

I really don't see you having much room for all the crap we accumulate that ends in the garage.

My garage is the same dementions as what the OP posted. It can be done, but both vehicles need to be clean or you are wearing work clothes. It's gonna be tight.

I love my fully size Tundra, but it is pretty big.

 

If you cannot take both vehicles on a test drive and see how they fit in your garage, I'm sure you probably know local Tacoma and Tundra owners who'd test fit their trucks in your garage. Might cost you a few beers at a watering hole, but anything involving beer is winner winner.

 

Next best thing u could do is look up the specs/dimensions for each truck online and then pull out the big tape measure in the garage.

 

For your needs, I would go Tundra.

 

I've been looking at the 2022's as well, I heard a rumor Toyota is releasing a hybrid Tacoma/Tundra, is this true? I can only find sketchy websites and I sent an email to Toyota "can't comment".

 

2022 Tundra pricing has been set.

 

I dont have that issue, maybe it's the way I drive it or whatever. But for obvious reasons, the back seat of a 4 door is much bigger than an AC Taco. Still little tight with 2 baby seats back there too, on occasion I have carried kids with me.

I suggest you take the kids with you on a test drive of both 4 door Taco & Tundra. Then you'll truly know.....

 

With owning Tacoma’s and 4runners over the years I made the switch in April from 4runner Pro to tundra Pro. I still like the Tacoma but I did not want to go back to it because of the back seat size and having 2 dogs. Big dogs. The only reason I traded my 4runner Pro in was because my wife has a Acura RDX suv. I felt I did not need 2 vehicles the same. And getting pretty much what I paid for my 4runner Pro i had nothing to lose to jump up to the tundra Pro crew max. I love everything about it except one thing. How much longer it is than the Tacoma and 4Runner. But if I ever decide to go back to a Tacoma or 4runner I wont lose anything on my tundra pro.

 

How is the 2022 Tundra doing so far in terms of:

1. reliability
2. actual gas mileage?

What are we expecting for 2023?
