Does wireless android auto really work? Every tacoma radio on their site says that android auto is wired only?

If anyone is concerned about how insanely hot the unit gets I attached two raspberry Pi heat sinks to the unit and drilled out a fan on top (60mm noctua FLX, ultra low noise filter) that is ran from 12V illum circuit on pin 1 of the 28-pin connector. I pickup a ground from it the side of computer case.

It's been working consistently good for me. At first it was buggy but I did a head unit power off and restart and it's been working great since then.

You do have to update the head unit as mentioned earlier in this thread though.

Okay cool! Good to know. For the update it says I have to connect the truck to wifi? If I can't do this I live in an apartment and can't connect can I update through a USB?

Honestly not sure on that. I think I updated first thing via USB before setting up the wifi. I just followed the video instructions.

You could always use your phone as a WiFi hotspot if needed.

Thanks! And to get reception on the unit I'd have to use a separate sim card right if I wanted it to be stand alone?

Pretty sure that's the case. Just not something I'm planning on doing myself.

I bought one of these and modified it.

    https://www.aironboard.com/online/p...audio-charger-socket-for-toyota-vehicles.html

One port is charge only so I removed that small circuit board (the bottom one on the pic) and shaved the plastic sides and top/bottom on the female end of a usb extension chord. Jammed it into the port nice and snug and was able to run both cables to the head unit. That way I can have music on a USB stick and plug in my phone and they both are connected to the head unit.

Alternately, you could have a usb extension and run it behind or into the glove box, it just wouldn't be quite as user friendly.

I think it’s kinda funny we have the same year and same radio with different outcomes. I did the same test and the only time the camera power wire indicated 6v was when I was in reverse. I didn’t drive around but cycled through the entire shifter. Weird.

The Back/Center/Forward and Home don’t work for me either. When setting up the buttons you can see there is no signal coming in(numbers across the top) and I believe that is because the wires don’t go through the harness. You can see there is a Key1 and Key2 that are hooked up. We need to find the last wire and jump it to both of them or to one of them is it shows up differently than the addresses that are already there. What would be nice is a wire diagram for the trucks radio.
