This has happened to me twice that I can think of, but I've never been able to recreate the symptom.

Was it pretty hard? Like fell entirely on its face hard, or was it more of a, it was noticeable, but more annoying than drivability condition affecting?

annoying.. especially when trying to blow the doors off someone..

slight change in RPM.. maybe a few hundred in quick repetitive bursts. until I let off.. then roll back into it. sometimes it will go away.. sometimes I have to really back off.. then get into it. I've had it happen with and with out the snorkel.. have done tests to verify. I believe its the exhaust.. Maybe its time for a nicer, smoother setup after the URD headers.

This sounds more of a fuel or spark issue than a sensor related issue. What sort of fuel mods are you running Biscuits?

You may want to check the exhaust pressure at the O2 sensor and see what's going on when that happens.

If you have a scanner capable of reading mode 6 you can check the condition of the cats and see what sort of reported values they are currently at compared to what their minimum values are. That should tell you a lot about their condition actually.

Eh. TRD injectors, DeatschWerks 225lph fuel pump, original spark plugs.

Before anyone says anything, yes I need to change spark plugs because there is 57,xxx miles on the truck and I know it ran grossly rich for the majority of those miles.

No cats. but.. is that something I can still check? I'd like to see if there's a pulsing in pressure in the system.

my first time around when I did my plugs after being boosted.. I went with the same TRD plugs. IKH22 I think. They came out pretty nasty still.. which confirms it for me that the AFR guage is definitely reading correct.. its rich AF still. hoping with these new plugs and maybe some more tuning now with the HP Tuner it'll get better. I'm hoping for just some simple tuning or exhaust mods to fix these surging and rich condition issues.

BUT.. I'm also no genius. that's why I'm posting my issues. My simple brain breaks it down into that.. It wouldnt surprise me if it was much more complicated.

o_O that is an insulting amount of miles to have on those plugs. Shame on you Biscuits. Lol. I found your problem right there.

This is something you would have to check with a manual pressure gauge if that's the case.

I doubt it's your exhaust. Actually, I doubt it A LOT. It sounds more sensor related or maybe even part related. How many miles do you have on it now?

You shamed me into buying Ruthenium spark plugs.

    @12TRDTacoma just rolled over 130k.

Just thought of something.. could it be related to removing the bypass jet? Its been years since I did that.. cant remember if it was doing it after that or not.. The surging has been an off/on issue for years.

It's not at all. Your issue is either CMP related, VVT related, or coil related.

I believe you can retrieve misfire counters from the same mode 6 data in a scanner. It would be wise of you to check and see if that is so, and if you see an value past 0 outlined in the parameter fittingly named "value" then you have a plug issue, but since you just replaced them and you are otherwise seeing them, that would be indicative of a coil misfire and you would have to replace it in that cylinder, but that would also be an indicator that the rest aren't far behind.

If that checks out fine, you have a VVT issue and I would say it's that well before a CMP issue.

Any issues with extended cranking or stuttering anywhere else in the RPM range? Stutter at take off?

Nothing else. Besides this.. the truck is actually running great. better than ever honestly.

So forgive me.. but I'm very much still learning all this stuff (engine related, not my strongsuit).. so to scan and see those values.. can the HP Tuner software see that?
